Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewill let players fight as the Arkhamverse’s version of Task Force X. With four-player co-op, the game could be an interesting twist in theArkhamformula, which has been exclusively single-player so far.

The revived mainstream interest inSuicide Squadas an IP began with the release of the trailer for the 2016Suicide Squadmovie. However, there are some big differences between the movie version and the Squad players can expect to see inSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

The Squad

In theSuicide Squadmovie Task Force X contains Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, El Diablo, Killer Croc, and, for a brief time, Slipknot. The four player characters ofKill the Justice Leaguewill include the Arkhamverse’s versions of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, andCaptain Boomerang.

King Shark, however, takes the role of Task Force X’s muscle-bound beast-man from Killer Croc. This is odd considering King Shark’s death inAssault on Arkham, which suggests thatKill the Justice Leagueeither takes place in a slightly different or retconned continuity from past entries in theArkhamfranchise. It is likely, however, that the voice giving Harley commands in the game’s trailer is stillAmanda Waller, who is in charge of the Squad across both the Arkhamverse and the movie.

The ambiguous, 100 percent ending of Arkham Knight

Batman Is Retired

While Ben Affleck’s Batman appears at the start of theSuicide Squadmovie, it seems unlikely that Bruce Wayne will be showing up in the upcoming game despite its “Kill the Justice League” subtitle. At the end ofArkham Knight, Batman initiated the Knightfall Protocol. This heavily implied that he had faked his death and given up his life as the Caped Crusader after his identity was revealed. ThoughArkham Knight’s secret endinghinted that some version of the Dark Knight was still roaming Gotham’s streets, it seems unlikely that Rocksteady will go back on the ending of the lastArkhamgame in a spin-off likeSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

The Joker Is Dead

The Joker and his relationship with Harley Quinn was one of the main subplots ofSuicide Squad, even ifJared Leto’s Jokerwas not as popular as past incarnations of the character among some fans. Harley starts off the movie in a relationship with the Joker, and at the end he rescues her from prison.

The Joker is unlikely to appear inSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, though admittedly his death inArkham Cityhasn’t stopped the Clown Prince of Crime returning before.Arkham Knightsaw the Joker lodged in Batman’s psyche as a series of visions, and it is possible that Harley will be reminded of the Joker at different points in the new game’s plot. The Joker’s death could also see the game’s version of Harley finally get over him, taking a cue from theBirds of Preymovieand exploring her transformation from villainous sidekick to anti-hero.

Superman’s Gone Rogue

Suicide Squadtakes place in the DCEU, after Superman’s death at the end ofBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceand before his resurrection inJustice League. While the Snyder Cut certainly played with the idea ofSuperman turning evil,Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueappears to be running with that as a premise. In the trailer, the Man of Steel shows up only to kill a helicopter pilot he appeared to have saved before turning his sights on the Squad itself.

Brainiac Has Invaded

Based on theSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguetrailer, DC supervillain Brainiac has invaded Metropolis. His distinct skull-shaped ship looms over the city, and he may be part of the reason Superman has become an antagonist. How his role will be expanded upon - and who the ultimate villain ofKill the Justice Leaguewill be - remains to be seen.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguereleases in 2022 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
