The positivity surroundingApex Legends' upcoming character Conduit is absolutely electrifying, as Wattson might say, as this legend beams with hope and helps defend the legends she once admired as heroes. Standing alongside them, this Apex Games super fan-turned-real-legend fights in the games to provide for her family, and her addition is already making waves. She is the firstHealing-focusedApex Legendscharacter since Lifeline, and although Conduit focuses on Shields instead of health, it’ll be interesting to see how this impacts typical squad compositions.
Indeed, while Wattson has a little shield regen andcharacters like Gibraltar are good for defensive plays, there really hasn’t been a way to reliably restore shields outside the trusty Shield Cells or Shield Batteries since the game’s launch. This adds a whole new dimension of survivability to squads, especially if someone pairs a Lifeline and Conduit together. Conduit, as a legend, seems great for quick in-fight resets thanks to her versatile kit inApex Legends.
Apex Legends Conduit Abilities
Her passive is designed to ensure if Conduit’s tactical is needed, it’s coming. Whenever she is outside the range of her tactical and sprinting toward allies, she gains a temporary speed boost. This is great if Conduit falls behind and a surprise firefight emerges or if she needs to turn around for an ally who has been looting a POI for too long. Her Tactical restores shields temporarily to that player, while she receives a similar buff, and this is a great way to repel a push, to do a quick “reset,” and keep the fight going. ShouldApex Legendsplayers need more of a reset, Conduit’s Ultimate is very control-like in nature, as it is intended to slow enemies and allow for a retreat—or anything to that effect. Of course, there is some counterplay to her Ult, but it remains to be seen either way.
Notably,Apex Legends' character design, from story and appearance down to kits, is very iterative. For example, Conduit’s sunny disposition was not always there at first, and her kit had a few changes too. Speaking with Game Rant, Conduit’s Lead Gameplay Engineer Chris Winder revealed that her Kit originally allowed players to heal shields for real, not temporarily, at the expense of some of her own. She also had a shield regen akin toWattson’s, but the team found this negatively impacted gameplay. Poke fights were frustrating when Conduit was healing too much, Conduit sacrificing some of her shield to deploy the tactical meant players wouldn’t really use it, and she couldn’t really keep up with faster teammates (which now ties into her Passive). Perhaps most interestingly, Winder also added,
There are a few other aspects of Conduit’s kit that we tried and dropped that I won’t mention here, but they could appear in a future season
As to what that could be, though, remains to be seen. Conduit’s kit overall is very versatile and geared towards survivability, and it stands to reason she’ll have a big impact on theApex LegendsS19 meta.
