Assassin’s Creed Valhallawas a huge game already upon its 2020 release, but Ubisoft’s not done with it just yet, as it’s getting another substantial content update on September 27 with Update 1.6.1. Update 1.6.1 is likely one ofValhalla’s last major content releases, but the developers are making sure that players have plenty to do for some time yet, as it’s supposed to continue one of last year’s storylines.
Specifically,Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s update 1.6.1 includes a direct follow-up to last year’s Tombs of the Fallen DLC and a potentially meta-defining new Ravensthorpe building, allowing players to optimize their runes however they see fit. The update will also serve as a platform to drive 2022’s Oskoreia festival inValhalla, where players can participate in unique time-limited activities, earn rewards, and more.

Ubisoft had previously provided some information aboutAssassin’s Creed Valhalla’s new settlement addition, and it seems that the long-awaited Rune Forge is being made available as part of update 1.6.1. The details are, of course, still rather scarce, but it seems self-apparent that the building will allow players to fine-tune their rune loadouts for endgame progression. High-tier loadouts may, in fact, be necessary for the other half of this update, which is the second Tombs of the Fallen DLC.
Valhalla’s first Tombs of the Fallen DLCcame out in November last year, adding a selection of new puzzle and traversal-focused dungeons that players could explore. This particular narrative thread stopped in its tracks once players got through all of them, however, and it was clear that Ubisoft intended to do more with them than it initially did. Chickens have now come home to roost, with update 1.6.1 presumably introducing the conclusion to the Tombs of the Fallen saga.
All the 1.6.1 content detailed so far is going to be freely available for all players, regardless of DLC ownership. This continues Ubisoft’s tradition of adding substantial new batches of content to the game with almost every new update.Assassin’s Creed Valhallaupdate 1.6.0introduced a whole new rogue-lite game mode, for example, as well as the Sigrblot Festival, which was similar in nature to the upcoming Oskoreia.
With thehype forAssassin’s Creed Mirageslowly ramping up, it seems like Ubisoft may be looking to wrap up the franchise’s Norse saga for the time being. In fact, with the Oskoreia Festival kicking off on October 20, the game is unlikely to receive any major updates in the interim, and while Ubisoft is yet to confirm whether this is the case, update 1.6.1 may well be one of Valhalla’s final content additions.
Assassin’s Creed Valhallais available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
