Rumors have been circulating for years that Rockstar Games has been preparing to release a remake or remaster of the originalRed Dead Redemptiongame, but nothing concrete has come from these rumors so far.Previously, it was reported that Rockstar did indeed plan on remastering the originalRed Dead Redemption, but put those plans on the back burner after thenegative reaction to the remasteredGrand Theft Autotrilogy games. Even so, the evidence continues to pile up. The latest piece of evidence was pointed out by videotechx on Twitter, who realized that the originalRed Dead Redemptionhas not been included in recent Xbox sales, including theXbox Ultimate Game Salethat just kicked off. While this could be a coincidence, the originalRed Dead Redemptionis often included in these sales, and since other Rockstar Games titles are a part of it, it seems like suspicious timing.
This isn’t the most compelling evidence in favor of theRed Dead Redemptionremasterbeing legitimate, but taken with other developments, it’s starting to seem very likely that the rumored game is real. Besides the reputable insiders claiming that the game is real, Take-Two itself has said that it plans on releasing two remasters by March 2024. Neither of those planned remasters have been announced yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising at all if one of them isRed Dead Redemption.
If Rockstar is going to remaster a game,Red Dead Redemptionmakes the most sense. Currently,Red Dead Redemptionlacks a PC port, so the game is “trapped” on PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s true that it’s playable on modern Xbox consoles through the backward compatibility program, but those on PS4 and PS5 are left out. Not only that, but based onRed Dead Redemption 2’s sales success, there are millions of fans who have never played the original game. ARed Dead Redemptionremaster could capitalize on the success ofRDR2and give fans of that game the chance to see where the story goes next.
ARed Dead Redemptionremaster or remake may or may not be on the table. What fans know for sure is thatRockstar is currently working onGrand Theft Auto 6, so it’s possible another studio is handling the remake/remaster. If the game is real, more information should come to light sooner rather than later.
