The reveal trailer forClockwork Revolutionappears to strike a similar tone to Irrational’sBioShock Infiniteand one former trailer producer found the similarities to be a bit ironic. During theXbox 2023 Showcase, inXile Entertainment debuted their newest title, Clockwork Revolution, a first person steampunk RPG that features time bending powers and an individual who intends to alter the course of history for the metropolis known as Avalon. As fans watched thedebut trailer forClockwork Revolution, more than a few individuals noted that the game appeared to be similar to Irrational Games’BioShock Infinite, a title the originally launched all the way back in 2013. Comparisons quickly broke out especially with the fact that it features a revolutionary going against an elite society in a prominent city with what appears to be sky rails, mechanized enemies, and plenty of propaganda strewn about. The similarities were so prominent that an individual who claims to have worked on BioShock Infinite has taken to Twitter to compare the two games.RELATED:Microsoft Reveals New Xbox ConsoleA Twitter user named Butmac, who states that they produced three of theBioShock Infinitetrailers, immediately experienced a flashback after watching the reveal trailer for Clockwork Revolution. They felt compelled to create a comparison of both games, immediately seeing some interesting similarities including the Daisy Fitzroy-like character who also sports a scarf. As can be seen in the images, both games feature plenty of propaganda stating that enemies are everywhere, mech-style enemies reminiscent of the Handy Man or Big Daddies from the older BioShock games, as well as grand statues and sky rails in a massive, opulent city.

The comparison even prompted a response from Microsoft, who is publishingClockwork Revolutionalongside the development studio inXile entertainment. InXile studio head Brian Fargo offered clarification by confirming thatClockwork Revolutionis a true RPG with a focus on stats, details, and “deep reactivity” that the studio has come to be known for in its previous role playing games likeWasteland 3. Not only that, the main character is fully customizable, and players will be creating them at the start of the game.

Ultimately,Clockwork Revolutionmay have to hold BioShock fans over as the upcoming Cloud Chamber title appears to be further away than expected. While2K and Cloud Chamber remain silent on the status ofBioShock 4, reports over the past couple of months seem to indicate that the title is in development hell. Internal reboots have continued to delay the game’s development to the point where it may not even be ready by 2025.

Clockwork Revolutionis currently in development and will launch for PC and Xbox Series X.
