Square Enix’sBravely Default 2recently crossed consoles into Steam on June 24, 2025. Contrary to its name,Bravely Default 2is actually the third installment in theBravelyseries, and, unlikeBravely Second: End Layer, is not a direct follow-up toBravely Default. A new addition isBravely Default 2’s Portals, which are vital to increase level caps and grow characters.
Bravely Default 2offers manydifferent Jobs for playersto choose from. All Jobs have a limit level of 12, but Portals allow them to be raised to level 15. Players may have noticed stone portals as they traversed the world ofBravely Default 2.
These Portals will not be accessible before chapter 7 and for good reason. Upon interacting, players will be taken to the Halls of Tribulation where they will battle the spirits of Asterisk holders and have achance at increasing their Job levels. There will be three to fight at a time and all come with a difficulty spike in increased health and damage output. Thus, it’s not recommended to attempt these portals until later in the game. Should the player’s levels be in the mid to late 80s and 90s, then they should be ready to track down all 7 portals and have a fighting chance.

Portal 1: Halcyonia - Northwest
The first Portal can be found in the northwest field, at the back of Halcyonia. It will be on the left against the mountains. Despite being the first Portal, it should be attempted last. This will let players upgrade the Black Mage, Bravebearer, and Bastion Jobs.
Players will be pitted against Lady Emma (Black Mage), Sir Sloan (Bravebearer), and Lonsdale (Bastion). Take care of Sir Sloan first because he has no weaknesses andhas a BP boost. Lady Emma can be defeated next. Luckily, she has the most weaknesses (wind, holy, earth, bows), but players should still be careful of her magic. Finally, Lonsdale may be bulky, but he’s weak to darkness and daggers while lacking in strength. Therefore, he’s best to save for last.
Portal 2: Halcyonia - East
The second Portal is located in the opposite direction of the first. This one is at the east of Halcyonia and is on the other side of the eastern bridge near the waterfall. Completing this portal will allow players to upgrade the Bard, Beastmaster, Thief,and Gambler jobs.
At this portal, players will fight Orpheus (Bard), Anihal (Beastmaster), Bernard (Thief), and Shirley (Gambler). Defeat Orpheus first because he can buff his teammates and has the least HP out of the fourth. He has a weakness to water and bows.
Next, target Shirley and Anihal because they have lower HP as well.Anihal is weak to earth and swordswhile Shirley is weak to lightning. However, because Bernard (weak to light and axes) can steal MP and BP, it may be better to defeat him before the other two.
Portal 3: Savalon - Northeast
The third portal is near Savalon. It’s at the northeast on a cliff near the ocean. Successful completion of this portal unlocks the cap for Salvemaker, Shieldmaster, and Swordmaster Jobs.
The Asterisk holders of this portalare Glenn (Salvemaker), Galahad (Shieldmaster), and Gladys (Swordmaster). Defeat Glenn first because he can heal and revive his team, but keep his and Galahad’s HP around the same level because Galahad will defend Glenn when his HP gets low. Once they’re defeated, then Gladys can be targeted.
Glenn is weak against lightning and spear attacks, Galahad against holy and rods, and Gladys against earth and bow.
Portal 4: Wiswald - Northeast
Northeast of Wiswald near the coasthidden among trees is the fourth portal. The Asterisks from here are Dragoon, Spiritmaster, and Oracle.
Players will fight Martha (Dragoon), Helio (Spiritmaster), and Domenic (Oracle). Since they’re support characters, defeat Helio and Domenic first because they can heal/revive and buff respectively. The fight will be more difficult to win if Domenic manages to buff Marla, so defeat both of her support mages before targeting her.
Helio is weak to dark and swords, Domenic is weak to dark and daggers, and Marla is weak to fire and axes.
Portal 5: Rimedhal - Northeast
This Portal is at the east along a coastline near Rimedhal and allows players to upgrade Berserker, Pictomancer, and Arcanist Jobs.
The fight is against Castor(Berserker), Folie (Pictomancer), and Viginitio (Arcanist). Since he doesn’t hold up well against physical attacks and attacks with magic, defeat Viginitio first. Folie should be taken care of next so players can focus their full attention on Castor. Have strong armor and magic for this fight and remember to heal regularly.
Viginitio is weak to holy and spears, Folie is weak to water and daggers, and Castor is weak to lightning and bow.
Portal 6: Rimedhal - Northwest
Like the second Portal in Halcyonia, this is at the opposite end of Portal 5 in Rimedhal. Head northwest along the left side of the map. This Portal upgrades the Hellblade, Phantom, and Monk Jobs.
Players will fight Adam (Hellblade), Marla (Phantom), and Horten (Monk). Defeat either Marla or Horten first, but be careful: Marla has high evasion. To combat this,use AIM-increasing buffsto have a better chance of inflicting damage. With these two defeated, players can take on Adam. Alternatively, they can try and defeat Adam first and deal with the evasive Marla and Horten.
Horten’s weaknesses are darkness and swords, Marla’s weaknesses are holy and spear, and Adam’s vulnerable to wind and axes.
The final Portal can be found at the west near Holograd. Completion will upgrade the Red Mage, Vanguard, White Mage, and Ranger Jobs.
Players will fight Selene (White Mage), Dag (Vanguard), Roddy (Red Mage), and Lily (Ranger). What makes this Portal tougher than the others are its two healers: Selene and Roddy. Obviously, players will want to focus on defeating these two first. Lily hits the hardest out of the four of them, so target her after Roddy and Selene are down and watch out for her Brave. With these three taken care of, Dag will be easier to defeat.
Selene’s weak to darkness and swords while Roddy is weak to spears. Lily and Dag are weak to light, rods, and swords, and spears respectively.
