Summary

Bungie intends to commemorate the recent weapon crafting exploit inDestiny 2by gifting players a special emblem for logging in during that particular weekend. As a live service title,Destiny 2is constantly seeing updates and patches, keeping things feeling fresh for its player base. However, with constant change, sometimes bugs and exploits can get introduced unexpectedly, andDestiny 2has no shortage of popular and infamous glitches and issues especially when paired with theexotic fusion rifle known as Telesto.

One of the more popular exploits as of late happened a few weeks ago in September. Players discovered that theweapon crafting feature ofDestiny 2allowed them to apply exotic perks to legendary weapons. While the pool of available exotics is somewhat limited, players were able to take perks like Screaming Swarm from Osteo Striga and apply it to a ton of different legendary weapons to create something extremely powerful. The bug proved to be a bit complex, pushing a potential fix beyond the weekend making it, so players would be able to utilize their Frankenstein style weapons in Trials of Osiris and generally causing a bit of chaos.

While the bug has since been resolved, Bungie is memorializing that weapon crafting chaos by gifting players a unique emblem that takes influence from The Relic visual design on Mars. It’s worth noting that onlyDestiny 2players who logged in anytime between September 15 at 9AM PDT through September 21 until 10AM PDT will automatically receive the emblem once the studio releases it sometime during Season 23.

While unintended, the “Funny Gun Weekend” was a boon asDestiny 2saw a major spike of around 20,000 players on PCalone. It’s clear that Bungie took notice as the blog post also mentioned that the studio was impressed by the creativity players had for crafting unique weapons. It was also hinted that Bungie was perhaps inspired and could create some “fun shenanigans in the future.”

This isn’t the first time Bungie has recognized players who powered through a difficult or bug filled weekend event. Two exotic weapons in particular, Lord of Wolves shotgun and the Prometheus Lens trace rifle, each had bugs associated with them which made them way more powerful than intended. While Bungie worked on a fix,Destiny 2players were able to take advantage of the bugged weapons during the weekend for the Crucible and Iron Banner activities. Eventually,Bungie created specialDestiny 2triumphs and emblemsfor players who took part, similar to what the studio is doing now.

Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
