Call of Duty: Vanguardwill soon release as the newest entry into the popularCall of Dutyseries. There is a lot to look forward to with Sledgehammer Games' nextCall of Dutytitle, including integration withCall of Duty: Warzone, a new Zombies mode (which is being developed by Treyarch), a fresh World War II campaign, akernel-level anti-cheat forVanguardandWarzone, and more. However, there may be more to look forward to over the next many years as well, as this could be the first of a trilogy of games under theVanguardname.
As is often the case this time of year, the newestCall of Dutyis receiving a lot of hype. Players are even able to get an early taste of the action, asVanguardweapons have been added toCall of Duty: Warzone. Players know what they have now withWarzoneand are excited about the integration, new information continues to come forth aboutVanguard’s release next month, but future news has now also been revealed. Details have emerged about the long-term plans ofCall of Duty: Vanguardthanks to a recent New York Comic Con panel.

According to Sam Maggs, a writer forCall of Duty: Vanguard,the team is setting the table for an entire trilogy. One of the driving forces behind wanting to makeVanguard 2andVanguard 3is that the team believes there are memorable characters as a part of theVanguardstory, and there is more to be told with future games. This information is brand new, as Tochi Onyebuchi and fellow writer on the game noted during the panel.
Call of Duty: Vanguardwill have four playable characters: including British paratrooper Sgt. Arthur Kingsley, a Russian sniper named Lt. Polina Petrova, Cpt. Wade Jackson of the US navy, and an infantryman from Australia named 2nd lt. Lucas Riggs. If the panel’s information is solid, fans could be getting rather familiar with this crew over the next few years. Of course, Sledgehammer Games and Activision would have the final word on the matter, andVanguard’s success will likely dictate whether or not more games in the series under that umbrella is a possibility.
So, we are hoping that if people love [Vanguard’s characters] as much as we do, that we get to continue to tell the story of these people and make them sort of like figureheads for this era of CoD basically.
Something that Maggs said about thecharacters in theCall of Dutyfranchise could be a bit controversial. Maggs claimed that theCall of Dutyfranchise does not have “standout characters,” comparing the series to not having a name like Master Chief.Vanguardcould have potential standout characters. But many fans of the series would argue that the likes of Captain Price and Sergeant Woods are already beloved, as well as Mason, Soap, Ghost, and others. However, it would still be hard to argue that any of those characters are on the level of Master Chief.
Call of Duty: Vanguardlaunches on November 5 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
