Call of Duty: Warzonewill soon be starting over with Season 1 as it integrates itself withCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.Call of Duty: WarzoneSeason 1 will launch on December 16 with a slew of new content, including many ofBlack Ops Cold War’s weapons and two new Gulag experiences that will be replacing the Gulag shower that players have been battling it out in for nearly a year now.

WhenCall of Duty: WarzoneSeason 1 starts on December 16, players will be able to fight for a second chance in one of two Gulags. The first Gulag will be tied to the Verdansk battle royale map, with players winding up there after they die for the first time in a match. Spectators will still be able to throw rocks at those battling it out, but the Gulag itself will look much different. Instead of the shower location fans are used to, the new Gulag will be a rough recreation of the popularNuketown multiplayer map. All the usual Gulag rules still apply.

The other new Gulag experience forCall of Duty: Warzonewill be exclusive to thenew Rebirth Island map. OnceCall of Duty: Warzoneplayers die on Rebirth Island, they will get the opportunity to fight for another shot at the match by winning a 1v1 fight in chamber below the Prison Block area. A unique twist for this Gulag is that the map has a metal detector that can alert players to their opponents' location, adding an extra layer of strategy to the proceedings.

It will be interesting to see if these newCall of Duty: WarzoneGulag experiences are here to stay, or if they will eventually be cycled out. In the past,Call of Duty: Warzonecontent has typically only been added for a limited time, though it likely depends on fan reaction. If enoughCall of Duty: Warzonefans complain about theoriginal Gulagbeing gone, it seems likely the developers will add it back to the battle royale.

Alternatively, it’s possible that these newCall of Duty: WarzoneGulag experiences will be popular, and they could very well stay in the game for the foreseeable future as a result. Or maybeTreyarchwill mix things up by having the game randomly decide which Verdansk Gulag will be available. This detail hasn’t been clarified as of yet, though, so fans should note that this is just speculation at this time and they should wait for some more concrete information from Activision.

Call of Duty: Warzoneis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
