Quickly amassing millions of players and standing toe to toe with some of the best battle royale titles in the genre,Call of Duty: Warzoneis without a doubt one of the most well-received additions to theCall of Dutyfranchise in recent years. While many no doubt have concerns surrounding itsfrequent issues with hackersand a handful of unrefined gameplay elements, the general consensus is that it’s something of a return to form for a series that has slowly become increasingly irrelevant.
It seems the team behind the game has also picked up on the popular multiplayer title’s favorable reputation with audiences, as Infinity Ward’s Taylor Kurosaki recently told GamerGen thatCall of Duty: Warzonewon’t be going anywhere anytime soon. According to the studio narrative director, the multiplayer game will be a “constant” going forward, seemingly remaining an integral part of the series' annual schedule in the years to come.

In the interview, Kurosaki claims, “We’re in kind of uncharted territories here.Call of Dutyhas been on a very regular cadence for many many years, and Warzone has made us rethink exactly how best to release new content and how to integrate it.” He continues, “Call of Dutyis a genre in itself, there are different branches in theCall of Dutytree, but they’re all connected in some ways,” clearly referring to the different tones and gameplay concepts introduced in each of the various sub-series underneath theCall of Dutyumbrella.
His final quote is perhaps the most interesting, however, with Kurosaki stating “Warzonewill be the through-line that connects all of the different various sub-franchises ofCall of Duty.” What this exactly means for the battle royale game is something of a mystery; however, it seems to imply that the title will still remain a big part of theCall of Dutyyearly lineup regardless of the release of future games. Some have even posited that it could mean future releases in theBlack Opsfranchise or other various sub-franchises could bringnew maps themed around their specific setting toWarzone, especially with Verdansk seemingly based on the setting of last year’sModern Warfare.
Regardless, it’s good to hear thatWarzonewill seemingly be a big part ofCall of Dutygoing forward, especially as many currently peg it as being one of the better battle royale games on the market. WithBlack Ops 5rumored to be the next stop for theCall of Dutyfranchise, fans will just have to wait and see whetherWarzoneties into the upcoming shooter.
