God of WarandTwisted Metalgame director David Jaffe confirms that Sony is planning a major PS5 reveal event. Rumors have been growing about a PS5 announcement afterSony canceled Destination PlayStation, an event which it holds every year.
On Twitter, Jaffe told a fan that thePS5reveal is “less than 4 weeks away,” which confirms that the event is happening in February. The fan had said that Microsoft is “dominating” the conversation about new consoles, but Jaffe said that Sony knows that its fans are “hanging on” to every piece of PS5 information and that it can easily get everyone talking about its console with a big reveal.

Some may have been surprised that Jaffe, who has worked so closely with Sony, would reveal the company’s plans on Twitter like this. There had beenleaks about a PS5 event in Februarybut nothing has been officially confirmed. Jaffe also called the PS5 event “the worst kept secret in games right now,” and that Sony is doing a “February reveal like they did for PS4.”
Jaffe hasn’t worked with Sony since releasingDrawn to Deathas a PS4 exclusive in 2017. The developer worked with Sony for so long that it’s possible he may have heard it on the game developer grapevine, but PlayStation fans will want to take this with a grain of salt or two.
Jaffe’s tweets about the PS5 reveal shouldn’t be taken as gospel, but that doesn’t dispel the idea that a PS5 reveal is happening next month. Games journalist Patrick Klepek confirmed that Sony will be sharing more information about its projects in February and that one of these reveals will be for the PS5. Fans are hoping that Sony will confirm the PS5’s price, release date, and which launch titles it will have as there have also been several rumors about these.
One thing that fans do know for sure about Sony’s PS5 plans is that no big announcement or reveal event is coming at E3 2020. Sony has confirmed that it will not be going to E3 2020, which has prompted someXbox fans to say that Microsoft has “won"just by going to the event. This may also be why Twitter users like the one Jaffe spoke to feel that Xbox is dominating the console conversation. The company’s decision not to go to E3 does make it more likely that Sony is hosting its own PS5 event but fans will want a confirmation from the company.
