Hideo Kojima has a history of making hard-to-decipher teases regarding his games, with many fans not understanding whatDeath Strandingwas prior to launch, and his latest teases include American actress Elle Fanning. Many have been looking to decipher this tease beyond the obvious implication:Elle Fanning is in the next Kojima Productions game.

Now, that narrows it down somewhat. Norman Reedus has publicly discussedDeathStranding 2before, while it’s also known that Kojima is working on a Cloud game with Microsoft. The latter is likely still in its early stages, with many thinking this tease is forDeath Stranding 2, and one fan has found some interesting evidence for this.

After the teases to Elle Fanning’s identity were solved, Hideo Kojima posted some images of the actress making some odd gestures. If there was anything meaning to them, it’s obviously hard to decipher, but one Twitter user known as Knut pointed out one important comparison: the gestures Elle Fanning make are some gestures Lou can make inDeath Stranding.Lou, also known as BB-28 and real name being Louise, is the baby that accompaniesSam Bridges throughout his journey.

For many, this solidifies her role as anadult Lou in aDeath Strandingsequeland obviously this has some big implications for the story. Norman Reedus' character Sam Bridges may take a backseat role, after all, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. But most importantly, the sequel would need to better define its gameplay style. Many know that Kojima envisionedDeath Strandingas a new genre that he called the Strand game, which focused on connections between peoples and players in sometimes obscure ways, and a sequel is important in solidifying that.

However, it’s worth noting that these pieces of the puzzle fit so well together. The above image comparisons, the potential story direction for Lou in aDeath Stranding 2, and more, and that in and of itself is odd. Kojima kept fans guessing for months onDeath Stranding, and such a heavy tease ahead of a proper reveal (perhaps atThe Game Awards) is quite unlike the auteur. While this could definitely be the case, fans should keep their expectations in check and await more information.

But, regardless of whether she plays Lou, some othercharacter inDeath Stranding 2,or someone else entirely in something completely unrelated, it’s clear Elle Fanning has some role in the next Kojima Productions game. And that, in and of itself, implies a Kojima Productions game announcement is forthcoming, too.

Death Stranding 2is rumored to be in development.
