Deep Rock Galactic’s Season 5 is just around the corner, promising a host of exciting new content for fans of the space-dwarf mining game. This includes a brand-new mission type called Deep Scan, which involvesplayers mining deep undergroundusing a huge Drillevator machine. There is also a new Seasonal Event called Core Stone involving a mysterious purple rock, and much more in the huge upcoming update that looks ready to burst at the seams with new armor, weapon Overclocks, and the ability to replay previous Seasons.
Game Rant recently had the opportunity to take part in a hands-on preview for Season 5 ofDeep Rock Galacticwith Lead Game Designer Mikhail (Mike) Akopyan and Marketing Manager Aaron Hathaway. While the preview focused primarily on the new Deep Scan mission, Akopyan and Hathaway also showcase the Core Stone Seasonal Event, including its exciting new alien enemies, and more.

Deep Rock Galactic’s Season 5 Core Stone Event And Core Spawn Crawler Enemies
During a hands-on preview ofDeep Rock Galactic’s Deep Scan Mission, Game Rant also got a taste of its new Core Stone seasonal event, involving a mysterious new purple stone jutting out of the ground. Players must mine the structure to access the Core Stone buried within to summon a device that safely extracts and transports the Stone away.
However, it seems it is protected by a swarm of brand-new enemies called Core Spawn Crawlers, which also seem to attack as soon as players successfully transport the Core Stone. While Akoypyan mentioned any of the new Season 5 enemies could show up in any ofDeep Rock Galactic’s missions, including Deep Scan, he added that the Core Spawn Crawlers are tied specifically to the event.

What’s also special about these Crawlers is that, during the preview event, Akoypyan and Hathaway also revealed that they are set to be the basic enemies in Ghost Ship Games' upcoming titleDeep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, something that the developers also recently revealed they will be working on next before moving onto development for Season 6, making Season 5 a much longer but equally more jam-packed Season. Visually, the Crawlers are also moreclassic alien creaturestyle, rather than the typically alien-insect or robot-style appearance seen in the franchise thus far.
Deep Rock Galactic’s New Enemies Coming To Season 5
In addition to the Core Spawn Crawler, the newDeep Rock Galacticenemiescoming to Season 5 include:
When asked what they are most excited for players to see, Hathaway specified the Stalker, which is something that sounds akin to aPredatormovie. Hathaway described it as a “distinct challenge” and explained why he is looking forward to players seeing it in action:

I can already tell—even though we’ve played in a very technical testing way—even now when I hear the Stalker, it’s like, “Oh, there’s a Stalker.” I’m really interested in just, I don’t know, seeing the memes and community discussion and response that goes to see that being one of the challenges you run into.
