Despite the praise Bungie is receiving in the wake ofThe Witch Queen’s release, problems are still cropping up to plague players currently grinding inDestiny 2’s newest expansion. One particular point of criticism from players has been the extremely low drop rate for deepsight resonance weapons insideThe Witch Queen’s newest activity, Wellspring, and how it is halting quest progression. Bungie now appears aware of these complaints and confirms it is currently looking into the low drop rates.
The Witch Queenis the latest expansion forDestiny 2,which sees guardians do battle with the Hive god of cunning, Savathun, and her Lucent Brood which have somehow come into possession of the Light. One of the spaces where players battle these Light-powered Hive is the Wellspring, the new six-player matchmade activity, in the hopes of earning four of the nine new weapons available inside Savathun’s Throne World. The weapons are also capable of dropping as deepsight weapons which, in turn, feeds into both quest lines and the new weapon crafting system.

It is for those reasons players have been voicing their frustration with theWellspringand its extremely low drop rates when it comes to deepsight weapons. Along with Twitter and Reddit threads, notableDestinycontent creators like Datto and Aztecross offered similar critiques about how the low drop rate is hampering both crafting and quest advancement. As mentioned, though, Bungie appears to have heard these complaints and Bungie Community Manager DMG addressed it on Twitter in a response to a tweet from content creator KackisHD.
While this isn’t the first time extremely low drop rates have plaguedDestiny 2players, the aforementioned quest and crafting needs appear to have made this a far more frustrating grind for many players.
The four weapons offered inside Wellspring are among the craftableweapons available at the Relic, requiring players to attune multiple deepsight versions of said weapons before players can craft them. The weapon frames are also necessary to unlock because they directly tie into advancing the investigation board at the Enclave social space which, ultimately, unlocks the exotic, class-specific glaives to craft. Players feel the lack of consistent drops is creating an artificial barrier for advancing both of these, which is only worsened by the daily rotation rewarding only two of the four weapons.
SinceBungiehas acknowledged the drop rate and is investigating, it may only be a matter of time before it is resolved. However, players will need to wait and see what the potential fix would be and how effective it is at reducing the extreme Wellspring grinds currently dominatingDestiny 2’s player community.
