For the first time in the franchise’s history,Destiny 2will be extending the timeframe for the contest mode completion for its pinnacle endgame activity.Destiny 2has always challenged players to complete its difficult endgame activities as a test of skill, trust, and communication. The raids inDestiny 2have always taken this challenge one step further, with six players facing an increased level of difficulty to claim the glory and exclusive loot.Raids or Raiding have been around since the advent of modern MMORPGs. While theWorld of Warcraftraids have set the bar for MMORPGs,Destinywas the first game to popularize raids in the looter-shooter genre. The launch of a newDestinyraid is accompanied by a 24-hour race, where players compete against time and each other to claim the coveted “World’s First” title. During these 24 hours, enemies in the raid are deadlier, and players cannot gain power past a certain point. No endgame activity inDestiny 2comes close to this level of challenge, as among the millions of players, only12 managed to clear the Last Wish raid on the first day.RELATED:Destiny 2’s Season 20 Weapon Tuning Focuses on PvEAs stated in an official post by Destiny 2 Team, the timeframe to complete theLightfall’s raid has been extended to 48 hours. The contest mode for the raid will begin on March 10 and conclude on March 12. The tweet further explains that this decision was made so more teams could attempt to complete the raid on challenge mode and to prevent players from overexerting themselves in their effort. The tweet ends with the promise of a future TWAB providing more details, possibly even disclosing whichDestiny 2exotics might be disabledto maintain balance. Bungie has been attempting to make the raids inDestiny 2accessible to more players and this is another step in that direction.
After the launch ofThe Witch Queen, Bungie decided to release Vow of the Disciple and every future raid on a Friday. At launch, Vow of the Disciple encountered severe connection issues that led to many players being unable to even enter the raid on launch day. This technical problem promptedBungie to extend the contest mode timerto attain the coveted Day 1 Emblem by 24 hours. While some players were upset about the 24-hour extension, the decision was welcomed by most players.
Currently, there is no information available regarding the raid coming inLightfallother than the March 10 launch date. Considering Guardians will be facing off against The Witness and the forces of Darkness directly, there is no telling what might happen. Players will have to wait and see ifClan Redeem can repeat their success story of Last Wishor if Clan Math Class will finally break their curse.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
