The looter shooter part ofDestiny 2involves a ton of RNG when it comes to getting the right weapon with all the right perks. Thankfully, back whenThe Witch Queenexpansion was released, Bungie introduced a unique crafting system to the game that lets players mix and match perks on certain weapons as many times as they’d like.

Despite crafting being a part of an expansion pack, it’s actually free to allDestiny 2players. However, new players might have some trouble with this system, especially since the game doesn’t outright tell them that crafting even exists in the first place. Here’s how toaccess this crafting system, as well as all the other things you need to know about it.

How to Craft Weapons in Destiny 2

First, players need to unlock theDeepsightability by playing through a mission called The Arrival, which is accessed by clicking onthe Savathun’s Throne World nodeon the Destinations screen. If this is the first time players are entering the Throne World, then completing this mission is mandatory to gaining access to the rest of the Throne World.

After finishing the mission, it will be followed up by a quest called The Relic, which is basically a tutorial on how to useDestiny 2’sweapon crafting system. For those who are looking for a rundown on the crafting process itself, these are the steps:

Extracting a weapon pattern in Destiny 2

Take note that the weapons shown in the Shape screens are the only ones that can be crafted, and before they can be Shaped, players must first unlock their respectivePatterns.

Unlocking Weapon Patterns

Occasionally, players will get ared-border craftable weapon. This means that the gun hasDeepsight Resonance, which can be extracted to earn Pattern progress. To extract a Pattern, inspect the weapon and hover the cursor over the Deepsight Resonance box next to the Mod socket. The button to extract the pattern will appear below it.

Usually, weapons require five Patterns to be fully unlocked for crafting, which means playersneed five red-border weaponsor useDeepsight Harmonizersto get additional Pattern progress. Every drop of a craftable weapon has a chance to have Deepsight Resonance, though there are usually some ways to get guaranteed red border variants from seasonal bonuses.

Reshaping Weapons

Players can change the perks on their crafted weapons by using theReshapefeature on the Relic. To unlock more perks, simplylevel a crafted weapon upby defeating enemies with it or by spending Glimmer and Enhancement Cores on it. Once a weapon reaches a certain level, more perks will become available at the Relic.

To reshape a weapon, make sure that it isneither equipped nor locked. Then, return to the Relic and choose the Reshape option. Here, players will be able to choose the weapon’s mods all over again. Reshaping isn’t free, however, so make sure to have enough resources before attempting it.
