In Season of the Deep,Destiny 2players may get to return to an old fan-favorite location that was sunset during the Season of Arrivals. As theLightfallDLC progresses further and players unlock more and more quests, lore, and background information, so too do they discover hints about future content releases, and major reveals may well be underway. The idea that Bungie may use existingDestiny 2content to heavily hint at what’s coming down the line is hardly new, as the developer has admitted to including various tidbits of vague lore only to draw upon it later on. One of the most prominent examples of this is Nezarec himself: a Disciple who was hinted at during the very first year ofDestiny 2, only to get propelled into relevance with the seasons leading up toLightfall.RELATED:Destiny 2 Reaper and Dynamo Mods Disabled by BungieADestinyleaker has reportedly been informed that Bungie may use theSeason of the Deep,Season 21, to reintroduce Titan, the moon of Saturn. While the leaker in question isn’t entirely sure of the information’s veracity, the idea is corroborated further in the game itself, where the final screen featured as part of the Winterbite exotic glaive quest specifically mentions that there’s an “enemy of Witness on Titan.” The potential return of Titan would perhaps be handled in much the same way asDestiny 2’s Haunted Leviathanwas, which means there’s precedent for mid-season patrol zone releases.

There’s also the matter of thetitle ofDestiny 2’s Season 21. Bungie itself officially revealed that Season 21 would be known as Season of the Deep ahead ofLightfall’s release, and while the “Deep” is often just another in-universe name for the Darkness, the title could very well be a double entendre should the season take place on Titan, which is clad in immense oceans of methane.

Curiously,Destiny’s version of Titan has often been intertwined with the idea that there are massive, potentially sentient creatures swimming in its oceans. Not only does theLast Days of Kraken Marelore book imply as much, but veteran players may also recall the appearance of strange silhouettes deep under the ocean’s surface. This may or may not tie in withDestiny 2’s Rhulk lore references, where the Disciple ended up mortally wounding a Light-aligned Leviathan to free the Worm Gods.

Whatever the case may be, Season of the Deep should prove fairly interesting in the end. In the interim, however, fans of the franchise do not seem to be enjoying the new content as much as anticipated. Notably,Destiny 2: Lightfallhas received mostly negative reviewson Steam, and it’s getting critically panned for a variety of reasons, not least of which is the fact that it’s a substantial step down from the critically acclaimedWitch QueenDLC.

Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
