TheRat Kingis the definition of teamwork inDestiny 2. On its own, theRat Kingis a handy weapon for Hunters thanks to its invisibility after each reload following a kill. But if every member of a team is wielding aRat King, they collectively grow in strength to do incredible damage.

Destiny 2 Rat King

TheRat KingCatalyst is strongly recommended for players who plan on using this weapon a lot. It gives the weapon a lot more milage and makes it much more useful for Hunters who rely on the invisibility. Here’s what all players need to know about what theRat KingCatalyst does and how to get it.

What TheRat KingCatalyst Does

TheRat KingCatalyst provides a perk to the weapon calledInfestation. Infestation provides three separate benefits to theRat King:

Better aiming and recoil direction is always nice with a sidearm. However, the refresh health upon invisibility is really the meat of theRat KingCatalyst. By getting into the habit of reloading after every kill, the player will briefly go invisible and receive a brief health refresh. For Hunters, this is great for ensuring survivability and makes PVP a lot more interesting.

While the exact odds of it dropping are unknown, it is really rare. It will most likely take a few dozen Strikes, according to players. There unfortunatelydoesn’t seem to be a way of increasing these oddssuch thatRat KingCatalyst will be the Catalyst to appear. Thus, players shouldn’t be surprised if they get another Nightfall Strike-based Catalyst like theMercilessCatalyst.

Upgrading TheRat KingCatalyst

Upgrading theRat KingCatalyst can either be a little annoyin, or one of the hardest things a player will do. This is because it requiresa teammate killing one thousand enemies using theRat King. One thousand enemies is an annoying grind in its own right, but convincing another player to do it so their friend can get the Catalyst upgrade is a tough one.

This is also one of the few times that kills for a Catalyst upgradecannot be done retroactively. The player must first have theRat KingCatalyst, and then a fireteam member will need to get the one thousand kills.

Tips For Getting TheRat KingCatalyst

Getting theRat KingCatalyst is best done on easy and fast, to complete Heroic Strikes. Nightfalls will be handy, but they’re not as efficient for time to complete. In all reality though, the player will do plenty of both before getting theRat KingCatalyst.

As far as upgrading, the best way is toget an entire clan to commit to using theRat King. Each kill by any member of the fireteam will count. The best way to do this is to find a group of players who either want to upgrade theirRat KingCatalysts, or like using theRat Kingin general. It is virtually impossible to get theRat KingCatalyst upgraded, solo soteamwork is mandatoryto some degree.
