Dino Crisisis one of Capcom’s survival horror franchises that garnered some attention when it was first released but soon dwindled down to existence. To those unfamiliar with the franchise’s history,Dino Crisiswas born out ofResident Evil’ssuccess, when creator Shinji Mikami saw the potential of using dinosaurs as a terrifying alternative toResident Evil’szombies. Although the first twoDino Crisisgames were received well by its fanbase, the release of the third game, which basically ignored everything that the first two titles established, marked the end of the franchise.

Now, given the recent remasters and remakes of the first threeResident Evilgames, fans have been clamoring Capcom to also give the same treatment toDino Crisis.Although Capcom has since acknowledged the demands of fans, it doesn’t appear that the studio is strongly considering doing a remake. Interestingly enough, the situation thatDino Crisisis currently in can be compared to the fate of EA’sSkatefranchise. Similar toDino Crisis,Skatehad a good run when it was first released back in 2007. However, when interest for the franchise was lost, EA decided to shelf the game for good in 2010. However, after years of fan requests, it was announced that a new game in the franchise is in development.

How Skate 4 Came Into Development

During its heyday, theSkatefranchise became a popular game to skateboarding enthusiasts thanks to its open-world environment and exciting gameplay. However, the last game that was released under theSkatefranchise isSkate 3, which launched for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. After years of silence from the franchise’s developers, many thought that the series is gone for good until the shocking revelation at EA Play 2020 when it was announced thatSkate 4is in active development.

During the EA live stream, developers Cuz Parry and Deran Chung confirmed that the game is in the works, and one of the primary reasons why they decided to revive the franchise is because ofthe never-ending requests from fans, makingSkate 4EA’s most requested game in 10 years. During the live stream, Parry jokingly said to fans that they “commented this [Skate 4] into existence.” He then continued to say that the game’s development still has a long way to go, adding that they have been “waiting years to make the game at the right time.”

10 Dino Crisis

Of course, whileSkateandDino Crisisare extremely different games owned by different studios, they share some similarities when it comes to their long-troubled history. Both games were popular when they were first released, spawning numerous sequels. Both franchises also lost popularity, but fans never stopped asking for a sequel, or inDino Crisis’case, a remake to be made. However, unlikeDino Crisis,Skatefans were victorious in their campaign, which leads many to wonder whether Capcom will ever revisit the popular dinosaur survival horror game.

What Capcom Thinks of the Dino Crisis Franchise

The announcement and subsequent release ofResident Evil 2remake seemed to have sparked the interest of Capcom fans toDino Crisis. With Capcom granting the wish of itsResident Evilfanbase, many wondered whether the same treatment will be given toDino Crisisthat has been dormant for 17 years now. After receiving numerous requests fromDino Crisisfans,Capcom finally broke its silence in 2017saying, that if fans want it, then they would consider remaking Dino Crisis as well.

However, three years have passed since Capcom’s tweet, but no plans, not even a hint, were revealed forDino Crisis. There have beentrademark registrationsand rumors that an announcement will be made soon, but nothing ever materialized. What worriesDino Crisisfans most is that after the release ofResident Evil 3remake, it became obvious that Capcom still has theResident Evilfranchise at top of its priority. Of course, this is not that surprising at all given thatResident Evilhas always been more popular thanDino Crisis, and the survival horror franchise has been Capcom’s cash cow ever since its release back in 1996.

Will Players Ever See a Dino Crisis Remake?

At the moment, it is difficult to say whether a remake ofDino Crisiswill ever see the light of day. However, with the rumoredResident Evil 4remake, and Capcom’s current development ofResident Evil Village, it appears that the possibility of aDino CrisisRemakeremains to be slim, especially since the franchise has been out of commission for nearly two decades now. In a recent report by Capcom, it was revealed thata newDino Crisisgame was actually pitched by Capcom Vancouverto its Japanese counterpart, but sadly, it was canceled.

Of course, the remake is still possible, especially if fans bombard Capcom to revisit the franchise, just as the fanbase ofSkatedid to EA. However, withDino Crisis’popularity still at a low, it appears that the only way for the franchise to ever see the light of day is if fans are able to make their voices loud enough for Capcom to even consider granting their request.
