The newBlack Adamtrailer opens with Johnson’s Teth-Adam reminding audiences that his powers were born out of rage, and the sacrifice of his son. After being imprisoned for 5,000 years, Black Adam finds himself free in the modern world and he is determined to bring his violent form of justice to Earth. Black Adam’s mission catches the attention of Viola Davis' Amanda Waller and the JSA, who wish to see him peacefully surrender, which he refuses to do. As inthe firstBlack Adamtrailer, the titular anti-hero reminds the JSA that he “kneels before no one.”
Despite the tension between Black Adam and the Justice Society, it seems not every member of the team is ready to give up the revenge-seeking anti-hero.Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fatereminds Black Adam that he has two paths before him, to be the destroyer of the world or its saviour. As viewers listen to Doctor Fate attempt to send Black Adam down a different path, footage of the villain Sabacc emerging from the water and preparing to fight Hawkman is shown.
Aside from his first acting role as the Scorpion King inThe Mummy Returns, Johnson has become primarily known for playing tough but likeable heroes. While many feltJohnson’s role as Black Adamwould force him to stretch his acting legs because the character is a villain, this latest preview and others suggest the titular anti-hero may not be as irredeemable as he seems.
Whether or notDoctor Fate and the Justice Societycan reach Black Adam remains to be seen. Of course, their goal may be helped by the arrival of Sabbac, who is all but certain to be the common enemy who ends up uniting Black Adam and the JSA.
