Elden Ringis less than two months away from its February 24 release date, and anticipation is building to a peak. Listening to online fans of From Software’s games, one might thinkElden Ringis the most anticipated game of 2022. But the truth seems, or at least has been, that From Software fans are just rather vocal. As evidence, Steam’s list of its most wishlisted upcoming games has featuredDying Light 2at the top for some time. That’s now changed, however, withElden Ringattaining the top spot.
As of January 8, for the first time ever,Elden Ringis now the most wishlisted upcoming game on Steam. Valve provides a list of the most wishlistedupcoming games releasing on Steam, now showingElden Ringat the top. Valve doesn’t provide hard data on the wishlisting numbers, unfortunately, so all that can be assumed is thatElden Ring’s numbers climbed higher thanDying Light 2overnight.

This is an exciting shift, if only becauseElden Ringhas never been at the top of this list. The top position has been held byDying Light 2for the entirety of 2021, a spot it gained only after the release ofCyberpunk 2077in December 2020. That’s not to say that excitement forDying Light 2has faded, by any means, but it does imply that excitement forElden Ringis spiking in the run-up to its launch.
While Valve doesn’t publish the exact numbers of wishlisters for each upcoming game, SteamDB does have a similar list. It doesn’t seem to line up exactly with Valve’s placements, but it seems close. According to these numbers,Elden Ringhas seen rapid growth over the past several days and gained nearly 10,000 wishlists over the past week.Dying Light 2, in comparison, has gained nearly 3,000 wishlists. In total,Elden Ringhas 273,000 wishlists andDying Light 2has 251,000.
As for what may have led to the rapid increase in wishlists forElden Ringon Steam, it’s anyone’s guess. From Software has been in the news a bit, but not in a major capacity. Still, there’s news that From Software is working on anewArmored Coregame, as well as newElden Ringleaks going around. Both could have contributed to the spike.
What it likely comes down to, however, is one simple thing. People are looking forward to the first wave of big game releases of 2022, andElden Ringin particular is very highly anticipated. That excitement is likely to continue growing up until launch, onSteamand elsewhere.
