AnElden Ringplayer called DIeGO3rr3 found an amusing connection betweenElden RingandSekiro. According to them, one of the game’s best spears, the Death Ritual Spear, looks a lot like the sword used by the Divine Dragon fromSekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The Divine Dragon is one of the hardest fights inSekiro, due to being very gimmicky when compared to most bosses, and its ancient sword is one of its most distinctive visual features.
In the comments of the Reddit post, some people helped to explain why this weapon may be featured in both games and clarified that it’s most likely a coincidence and not a direct reference. Both Divine Dragon’s weapon andElden Ring’s Death Ritual Spear are based on a real-world item, the famous Shichishito, also known as the Seven-Branched Sword. This is a Japanese ceremonial sword that was manufactured almost 2,000 years ago and given to a Japanese empress, remaining an important cultural artifact. The design can also be found in other Japanese games, such asMonster Hunter,Tenchu: Stealth Assassins,Soulcalibur,Okami, and others.
