Weather overhauls and mods are one way to enhance the post-apocalyptic feel of the game. There are quite a few great mods to choose from as well, with each bringing in a unique take on what it means to live in the wasteland after the bombs dropped. Here’s a few of the best, including True Storms.

10True Storms

True Stormsis a mod that specifically affects the way storms are in the game. It won’t have a significant impact on the default weathers outside of storms, but rather introduce some intense and more beautiful new storm variations. There’s a ton of new graphical effects and sounds included in the mod as well.

There are heavy dust storms, radiation rain, and even heavier and thicker fogs and rains. Weathers will also affect indoor locations with appropriate, realistic sound effects. Moreover, a new stealth mechanic allows players to get a sneak buff during certain weathers where visibility is low.

9Vivid Weathers

For a more complete weather overhaul,Vivid Weathersis a great mod choice. It adds a bunch of new textures (including new cloud textures) to giveFallout 4’s skies an even more realistic look. Weathers will significantly affect stealth by making the player less visible, and during loud weathers like thunder and heavy rain, walking noise is reduced.

There’s a ton of new and changed weather types as well, and that’s not even all. The mod even introduces the four seasons, which all come with their own unique weather changes to give the Commonwealth some real color and personality. There’s even a special Silent Hill-themed weather type.

8Natural And Atmospheric Commonwealth

For players looking for an even more complex mod that introduces general lighting and texture changes to the world overall, theNAC weather modis a perfect choice. It sticks very close to the original style of the game itself but enhances almost every visual aspect of it at the same time.

There’s a ton of new weather types from calm to stormy to discover, but indoor lighting and general lighting outside have also been greatly tweaked. The mod also brings in shaders that affect the appearance of water. Better yet, players can tweak the settings to best match their color and hue preferences.

7Nuclear Weather

Natural weather and staying true to the game is one way to enjoyFallout 4, but players looking for something more special and unique should check outNuclear Weather. This mod introduces some absolutely crazy weather types that can get incredibly deadly.

There are now heat waves, firestorms, nuclear winters, and even time rifts, all of which are dangerous and chaotic in their own way. It takes a huge step away from the vanilla feel of the game, but it’s a great addition to anyone who wants more challenge.

6Calamity Weathers

Although some believeFallout 4is a colorless and stale game, others believe it could be even grayer and less cartoony. That’s whereCalamity Weatherscomes in, inspired by the bleak and harsh aesthetic often seen in games likeMetro 2033.

Not only are there new weather types, but the default weathers also look and feel different. There are major graphical changes as well to give the Commonwealth an almost grainy, grey appearance. This is a must-have for anyone wanting to enhance the post-apocalyptic feel of the game.

5Polluted Climate

Perhaps the bleakest weather mod out there,Polluted Climatereally delivers when it comes to post-apocalyptic hellscapes. This mod makes the game feel like the bombs dropped just yesterday, and that the effects of the nuclear winter are still very much present.

This mod ups the frequency of weathers that give the world a coat of dust and fog. Inside areas will also be much darker and perhaps more frightening, making fights againstthe terrifying beasts of the wastelandeven more atmospheric.

4Seventy-Six Weathers

The alternative view on whatFallout 4should really look like is the vibrancy seen inFallout 76. It might not be the colorless nuclear wasteland most players dreamed of, but it does still look absolutely gorgeous, as proven bySeventy-Six Weathers.

The main purpose of this mod is to simply change the appearance of already-included weathers and lights by giving them bright colors that pop out rather than washing them away like many other weather mods.

3Wasteland Weather

Who doesn’t love the original, retro look of the previous olderFalloutgames? There was just something so special about them, to the point where it’s no surprise fans wanted to bring back that same feel intoFallout 4. WithWasteland Weather, that trip down memory lane is entirely possible.

Fallout 4 Polluted Weather

This mod makes everything in the game a tint of faded yellow and light brown, removing all unnecessary colors from the default look of the game. Default weather types will now feel more immersive, and players won’t have to wait until a radiation storm hits to really feel like they’re trying to survive.

2Gloomy Weather

New storms and extreme weathers are nice to have, but most mods often forget about the default “soft” weather types that range from foggy to clear. Many of them make the game’s world look much nicer than it actually should be, which is whyGloomy Weathersis such a great fix.

Thanks to this mod, the Commonwealth is permanently suffering from depressing, gloomy weather with cloudy skies and little to no sunlight. There are also mild rains and mild stormy weather inspired by British weather, which transitions occasionally from a default gloomy weather.

1Far Harbor Style Commonwealth

TheFar HarborDLC really nailed just how scary and strange the post-apocalyptic world should look. So, why not extend its weather conditions to the rest of the game’s areas? Those who have theFar HarborDLC can now enjoy the feel of the island’s overly foggy and mysterious environment in the Commonwealth as well.

TheFar Harbor Style Commonwealthmod overrides some of the default weathers of the Commonwealth by making them foggy and dark just as seen in Far Harbor. Eventhe exploration musichas been replaced by Far Harbor’s music.
