Hot off the heels ofFallout 3, Bethesda contracted Obsidian Entertainment to makeFallout: New Vegas.Fallout: New Vegascritical reception at the time was a bit less thanFallout 3’s, but the game has enjoyed increased popularity in hindsight, with many fans calling for a sequel. NoFallout: New Vegassequel has been announced at the time of this writing, but a reputable insider claims that early talks have started.
According to insider Jeff Grubb, there are talks at Microsoft to give Obsidian Entertainment the chance to makeFallout: New Vegas 2. This is possible thanks toMicrosoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, giving control of theFalloutIP to Xbox. Grubb’s sources said that “there’s a lot of interest to make it happen,” though ifFallout: New Vegas 2does get off the ground, fans likely won’t see it for years.

As far as theFalloutfranchise goes, there hasn’t been a new entry since 2018’sFallout 76. Moving away from a traditional single-player experience to a live service multiplayer game burned a lot of fans, leading toFallout 76getting scathing reviews from critics. Bethesda has worked to improve theFallout 76experience since then by addressing fan feedback and adding substantial new content, putting the game in a much better state than it was at launch.
Bethesda itself is likely too busy to makeFallout: New Vegas 2, so it makes sense for Microsoft to let Obsidian Entertainment work on it. Bethesda is working on open world sci-fi RPGStarfieldat the moment with plans to release it on November 11, and it’s going to focus onThe Elder Scrolls 6next. Obsidian has plenty of its own projects in the works as well, like the survival gameGroundedandElder Scrolls-like RPGAvowed, but as Grubb noted, thepotentialFallout: New Vegas 2would be years down the line.
WhileFallout: New Vegas 2may or may not ever happen, fans of the original game can easily access it on PC and new Xbox consoles thanks to the backward compatibility program. Those on PC can also expand their experience through the use of mods, with thesubstantialFallout: Nuevo Mexicomodas large as an expansion. There’s a variety of otherFallout: New Vegasmods available that can completely change the game, so fans wanting to revisit the game can do so with some new bells and whistles.
