Final Fantasy 7 Remakehas been an undoubted success for publisher and developer Square Enix. The company’s financial report which released yesterday showed asuccessful year for Square Enixthanks in part to the high sales ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remake. Today, players finally have a sense of just how impactful the remake has been.

Final Fantasy 7 Remakehas sold over 5 million units according to the official Twitter account for the game. The specific wording notes that the remake of the 1997 gaming touchstone ofFinal Fantasy 7"shipped and digitally sold over five million copies worldwide" since its release in April.

The tweet went further to show thatFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeholds a special honor beyond its immense sales numbers.Final Fantasy 7 Remakeis the highest selling Square Enix digital release on any PlayStation platform. This is the second sales record the JRPG has broken asFinal Fantasy 7 Remakesold over 3 million copiesjust three days after its April 10 launch. That means that over the last four months, the game managed to achieve near 2 million additional sales.

With the incredible sales numbers ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeputting Square Enix in a good place, it is unsurprising that the series isn’t going to end with what is just first part of theFinal Fantasy 7saga. While it was always known thatFinal Fantasy 7 Remakewould be broken up into parts, Square Enix confirmed last month thatFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2is in active development. This came with the caveat that the team is currently working remotely which will likely cause a delay in the next chapter for Cloud and the gang.
