Summary
The features missing from the currentFortniteOG season hopefully aren’t a telling sign of plans for the game’s future. WhileFortniteOG is an interesting experiment, there are a few aspects about it that probably shouldn’t become permanent. Considering the shorter than average length of the season, players likely won’t have to wait long to see what the next chapter of the game will have in store. Considering the unusual nature ofFortniteOG, it’s worth questioning if it could hold any hints for the future. If so, hopefully they will be lore-based rather than affecting gameplay.
While there arenew Battle Pass skins forFortniteOG, a major element of the season is a return to the series' roots. The island has reverted to feature most of the original points of interest, most notably the famous Tilted Towers that was last seen in Chapter 3 Season 4. Along with these old locations came the return of several old weapons, such as Clingers and the Hunting Rifle. As the name implies,FortniteOG is designed to create an experience similar to the earliest seasons of the game. However, while it’s a solid nostalgia trip, not all the changes for the season are positive.

Fortnite OG Needs to Restore its Missing Features Once it’s Over
While there are manyreturning locations inFortniteOG, it came at the cost of many of its newer features. Many of the features that have become accepted parts ofFortniteare missing fromFortniteOG. Prominent among these missing features are:
In addition to these mechanics, most of the game’s weapons and vehicles are also missing fromFortniteOG. While the goal was to make an old-schoolFortniteseason, OG has also had a notable side effect. The absence of these newer features is so notable that it actually detracts from the experience as a whole.

The meta had become accustomed toFortnite’s new reality augmentsand the new dimension that they added to the game, so their absence takes away an entire aspect ofFortnite’s strategy in the OG season. As for the NPCs, they have been around for far longer, and have become a vital part of each new island iteration. The NPCs going missing makes the map feel emptier, and it really feels like the season is missing something without them. While the re-inclusion of some old vehicles adds uniqueness to the season, the island still feels far less lively than it has in more recent seasons.
It’s worth wondering if, when the time comes forFortnite’s OG season to end, the game will revert back to normal. It’s fair to assume that it will, especially since these elements have been fine-tuned for several seasons now. However, OG’s removal of these elements makes their future less than clear. It’s possible that some of them could end up not making it into the next full season, which would be a major disappointment.Fortnitehas been steadily improving, largely thanks to the mechanics that are currently missing. If their disappearance becomes permanent, it will be a significant step backwards forFortniteas a whole.
Fortnite’s future is a topic that should be discussed, especially considering thatFortnitejust broke a significant record. AlthoughFortnite’s OG season removed a lot of features, it would be in the game’s best interest to restore them as soon as possible. Coming back to the island without many of its more recent additions would be a shock for veteran players, as well as rob newcomers of the chance to experience them.FortniteOG is a fun event, but its formula shouldn’t become permanent.Fortnite’s advancements should come back once the OG experiment has ended.
