Genshin Impactdeveloper HoYoverse has filed a subpoena against Twitter, demanding that the social media platform hand over the information for three users frequently leaking content from the game. HoYoverse’s flagship RPG has seen massive success since its debut in September 2020 with the game catching fire and exploding in popularity across the internet.Genshin Impactfrequently sees records set with each new character release with evenre-run banners earning tens of millionsfor the studio. However, the RPG’s widespread success has also led to a plethora of leakers divulging beta content early.
Since the game’s release,Genshin Impacthas fostered a massive community of leakers sharing details about each new version’s closed beta test. Players are typically treated to a plethora of information about upcoming patches just days after the new version’s beta releases, with some leaks even sharing content from far into the future. The developer has frequently targeted commonly used social media platforms like Discord to try and combat the growing flow of leaked content. Now, HoYoverse has Twitter in its sights as the next target to track down leakers.

A recent subpoena sees HoYoverse targeting Twitter and demanding the social media platform provide information for threeGenshin Impactleakers. The document demands that Twitter turn over several pieces of identifying information including names, phone numbers, and IP addresses for leakers Merlin Impact, Genshin World, and XWides. HoYoverse had previously pushed for Twitter to remove posts from the three leakers, claiming it infringes on the developer’s copyright forGenshin Impact.HoYoverse has previously taken a hardline stanceagainst leaks, banning or even suing users leaking pre-release content.
HoYoverse’s newest action against the game’s leaking community comes as the developer has seen major new content leaked in recent months. A massive leak relating to future content showed players some of the first designs forcharacters from the game’s next region of Fontaine. Fontaine is not expected to release until late Summer or early Fall withGenshin Impactstill rumored to be adding to the Sumeru map before then. Other leaks from Fontaine have given players an idea of the layout of the region, as well as some structures found within the France-inspired locale.
While leaks have teasedGenshin Impactcontent set to launch much later, HoYoverse recently gave fans a taste of what to expect in the game’s next version. Last week’s Version 3.5 Special Program officially revealed gameplay forGenshin Impact’s two newest characters, Dehya and Mika. The developer also revealed several events coming during the upcoming update, including the return of Mondstadt’s Windblume Festival and the newest chapter of the Traveler’s Archon Quest. Leaks continue to be a prevalent issue forGenshin Impactas HoYoverse combats a growing community of leakers.
