Summary

The most shocking moment in all ofJujutsu Kaisencame in Chapter 236 where fan favorite character, Satoru Gojo, wasshown to have diedat the end of his intense battle with the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna. This was a shocking revelation for many reasons, particularly because he was shown to be the winner of their clash at the end of the previous chapter. Gojo was someone that fans had fallen in love with from his very first appearance, to the point that he was more iconic for the franchise than the actual protagonist!

However, his death has not stopped fans from theorizing abouthis eventual return to the franchise. With what has been shown in Chapter 248, his return seems closer and more probable than ever before, but this may prove to be a decision that ends up being more detrimental to the larger story, so let’s see why Gojo shouldn’t return toJujutsu Kaisen.

It Cheapens Gojo’s Impact and Last Moments

Gojo’s death was enough to make even the biggest fans ofJujutsu Kaisenturn away from the series for a little while. This is because he was someone who had greatly endeared himself to fans from the first episode/chapter due to his personality, character and general motivations. Despite being massively overpowered in his universe, he was someone who spent his life fostering thenext generation to be even stronger than himand did it all while deeply caring for his loved ones.

Gojo’s death was amonumental event in the franchiseas it not only signified the death of the strongest sorcerer of the modern age but also the death of a mentor and a friend to the heroes. The airport scene at the beginning of Chapter 236 shows him meeting all his friends who have passed on, as well as him coming to terms with his life and being content with his end despite losing to Sukuna.

Gojo has always had incredible willpower, but he has suffered from intense isolation for much of his lifedue to how strong he wasas no one could ever match or relate to him. However, in the airport reunion scene, he is shown to have moved passed this mindset and is speaking to Geto, Nanami and Haibara on equal terms, showing that he can open up to those who aren’t as powerful as him and abandon his feelings of loneliness.

Gojo’s strength also made him the most formidable fighter in the entire Jujutsu world. Because of this, he became bored due to how no one could measure up to him. However, his loss to Sukuna was something that even he was fine with as he finally went all out on an enemy who could take his full power,so coming up short in the battledidn’t faze him because he did all he could have and put up an amazing fight against the strongest sorcerer in history.

Gojo was super happy at how he went out, and would only accept dying at the hands of someone stronger than him after a fight where he had the time of his life. These various reasons are why bringing him back into the story would be a bad thing, as Gojo was finally content with his life. After meeting all those that he cared about and finally opening up to them, he reflected on his life andrealized that it was his time to move on.

Bringing Gojo back to life would negate all of this development and would greatly cheapen his passing. More than anything, his death served to bring his chapter within the series to a close and also as a way to get the rest of the world to move on without needing a crutch to fall back on. Gojo’s time in the series was perfect andhis death was as well, and bringing him back would only diminish the impact of him as a character.

Gojo Wanted the World To Move On and Get Stronger

Gojo’s ultimate goal in life was to help foster the next generation of Jujutsu sorcerers to be strong enough to look out for the world. When he was born, the balance of power in the world shifted, leading to the creation ofCursed Spirits that were incredibly powerfulin order to compensate for his level of strength. What ended up happening, as a result, is that many Curses became so strong that only Gojo could deal with them.

He became a crutch that all of Jujutsu society leaned on far too heavily as they knew that Gojo could always end up solving the problem, no matter how powerful the Curse was. This ended up making other sorcerers weak and sort of complacent as they always relied on him, so, bytaking the role of a teacher at Tokyo Jujutsu High, Gojo set his plan into motion.

He knew that relying on him for everything would end up being far more problematic for the rest of Jujutsu society, due to which he started training new students to eventually be much stronger than he ever was. By doing this, he removed himself as a crutch and fostered a new generation of Jujutsu sorcererswhom he wanted to be powerful enoughto take on his role when he wouldn’t be around.

He knew that by doing this, he would create somewhat of a culture that would reciprocate his values to future generations, removing the need for any one person to be the strongest and essentially restructuring all of Jujutsu society as sorcerers would now have the ability to deal withall kinds of Curses by themselves. As of now, the story is going in that direction, with Yuji, Yuta, Hakari and Maki all being at a level of power never seen before, as the battle against the forces of Kenjaku and Sukuna continues.

Resurrecting Gojo would even be something that he himself may just be against, as his plan to change the world of Jujutsu would revert to relying on him to solve everything. Gojo’s ultimate plan may actually be coming to fruition and bringing him back into the fold would only serve to ruinsomething that he set into motionfor quite some time. Gojo’s send-off is far too perfect for several reasons and it’s best not to ruin it in any way!
