Thanks to a new interview between PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan and GQ Magazine, fans know a lot more about the future slate of the PS5, including the fact it will get a new VR headset and thatRatchet and Clankwill be free during Marchthanks to the Play at Home Initiative. The interview also revealed some more disappointing news, confirming thatGran Turismo 7has officially been delayed to 2022.
The announcement came after GQ posed a question regarding the racing game’s release date to Ryan, with a fellow representative ofPlayStationpromising to offer a statement answering the question at a later date. That statement eventually revealed that issues relating to the pandemic have delayed the sequel. Further news on the game’s release will allegedly be shared “when available,” so those wanting additional details on its status seemingly still have a while to wait.

The reason for the delay is once again due to difficulties imposed by the pandemic, with PlayStation claiming that “COVID-related production challenges” have resulted in the 2022 release. “With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months,” the statement claims, promising more information onGran Turismo 7will be sharedin the future. The racing game will join a number of significant releases that have been pushed back this year, includingHogwarts Legacy,thePrince of Persia: Sands of Timeremake, andThe Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
The game is slated to be the eighth official entry in the series and the first to grace the PlayStation 5, with early trailers already highlighting its striking visuals and realistic racing gameplay. It’s touted assomething of a return toGran Turismo’sroots, focusing on reinstating fan-favorite features such as simulation mode, tuning parts shops, and GT Auto. It will allegedly also integrate the PlayStation 5’s advanced features, including immersive haptic feedback through the DualSense controller, 3D spatial audio, and ray-tracing. The game’s sure to be an exhilarating showcase of the advanced hardware of Sony’s newest console.
WithGran Turismo 7now officially a 2022 release, next year is looking to be stacked with triple-A experiences, including the likes ofJustice League: Kill the Suicide Squad, The Callisto Protocol, Hogwarts Legacy,andSplatoon 3. That’s not to say 2021 doesn’t also sport an exciting library of upcoming must-plays, includingHorizon: Forbidden West, Halo Infinite, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart,Resident Evil Village, Monster Hunter Rise,and the nextGod of War.
