Fans of Obsidian Entertainment’s long history ofphenomenal storytelling inThe Outer WorldsandFallout: New Vegas, among many others, are sure to be excited to see the company’s latest project,Grounded. However, some fans raised a few concerns after seeing the designs of some of the areas and enemies, especially the gigantic and terrifying spiders that attack the player.
With the recentInside Xboxthat gave an in-depth look atObsidian’s development tacticsfor its upcoming survival game, players were given one of the best looks so far at what they’ll actually be facing off against in-game. Which is how many players came to find out that giant spiders would be coming after them if they stepped foot in the vast world ofGrounded, prompting one Twitter user to announce their excitement as well as their reluctance to play the game in the future.

Twitter user @TheRealKoding posted a tweet after watching therecentGroundedtrailer, claiming that while the gaming fan was excited to see something new coming from Obsidian, the spiders would likely be a deterrent for playing the full game. Quick to dispel any worries from fans, Obsidian quickly assured @TheRealKoding that the development team for the new survival game is working on an arachnophobia mode. Naturally, this was quickly caught by anyone with particularly negative feelings to the eight-legged creatures in question, and the news has been met with resounding approval.
Obsidian hasn’t spoken out about what this “Arachnophobia Mode” will look like, and judging from the early artwork andgameplay footage fromGrounded, spiders seem to be a major part of at least the earlier sections of the game. Later in the thread, the company did reply to another question about what players can expect from the new game mode, and the response claims that the developers are “still researching” and that more information will be presented when it becomes available. However, the @GroundedTheGame account, the official account forGrounded, has retweeted this response, meaning that this likely wasn’t an empty promise that blindsided the main development team.
While players can look forward toObsidian’s new survival game this summer, it’s hard to tell when this “Arachnophobia Mode” will be implemented. However, with the types of accommodations that the developers are making for players,Groundedis certainly a game to keep an eye out for. On top of that, the bright and lively world, complete with a dark mystery will hopefully be enough for the more spider averse players to give the game a shot regardless of the creepy crawlers scurrying throughout the map.
Groundedis set to release on July 28th, 2020, for PC and Xbox One.
