Today, Hasbro announced that it will be creating a new brand of Nerf blasters based around several ofthe popular and iconic weapons featuredin theHalofranchise. This brand ofHalo-themed toys is currently slated for a release of October 1st, 2020.
With Mattel’s BOOMco., a previous maker ofHalo-themed dart guns, being discontinued, it seems that Microsoft has passed the mantle of creating foam flingingHaloreplicas to Hasbro’s Nerf brand of products. The Nerf blasters that have been confirmed so far are interpretations ofHalo’sassault rifle, rocket launcher, and Needler, alllikely to be featured inHalo Infinite.

Nerf is no stranger to crossovers with major franchises, video games included. Large multimedia juggernauts likeStar Wars,Transformers, andMarvelhave all done cross-promotions with Hasbro to create lines of products based on their intellectual properties. In the world of video games, in particular, bothFortniteandOverwatchhave several licensed Nerf blasters of their own. Considering both Hasbro’s history of cross-promotional products, as well asMicrosoft’s upcoming release ofHalo Infinite, this sort of deal makes a lot of sense for both companies.
Chiefly among the weapons being released is a variant of the classic assault rifle called the MA40, which considering that the blaster will feature a code allowing buyers to obtain the toy’s color scheme inside ofHalo Infinite, may very well be representative of the designHalo Infinitewill be using for its assault rifle. In appearance, the MA40 is most similar to the MA37 variant of the assault rifle, asfeatured inHalo: Reach. The blaster will require four C batteries to operate and cost $50.
In addition, Nerf’s Micro Shots sub-series, a brand of smaller blasters, will be receiving two more blasters courtesy of thisHalocrossover. One is based on the Covenant Needler, while the other is a more loose adaptation of the iconic M41 SPNKR rocket launcher. Both will come packaged with two darts and cost $10.
Considering thatHalo Infinite’srelease window is set for late 2020 and that the in-game code is given away with every MA40 blaster, it seems apparent that this crossover with Hasbro is part ofInfinite’spre-release promotion. What products Microsoft may use asother promotional materialin the future remains to be seen.
