Going against the grain of itsGrand Theft Autocounterpart,Red Dead Redemption 2is an immersive experience that’s all its own. Between its incredible yet heartbreaking story, its myriad side missions and objectives, as well as a massive open world for players to explore,Red Dead Redemption 2is a game still worth picking up to this day.

However, that’s not to say the game is without flaws, as it is plagued by its fair share of bugs and glitches as well. These can range from harmful, game-breaking issues to much tamer and hilarious moments likeRed Dead Redemption 2’s John Marston falling through the ground. The point is, at times immersion can be broken, leaving the player feeling like the game is a tad unrealistic.

These glitches can sometimes affect the innocent horse companions of the game, like oneRed Dead Redemption2horse emerging from the ground. However, when no issues are present, the horses and their movements are some of the most impressive and realistic in gaming, especially when players switch to first-person when horseback riding. This was recently shown in greater detail by a horseback-riding Reddit user who noticed the realism and wanted others to appreciate it as well.

Reddit user Facial_Fetuss was able to appreciate the realism of the game’s horses due to their firsthand experience; this led them to splice together a clip that compared the game’s first-person riding to real horseback riding. The results showed that the game’s horseback riding had clearly been researched. For example, the camera and horse both bob up and down in-game, simulating the real-life horse’s movement. Also, the detail in the horse’s hair and mane are very similar to the real horse shown in the video. Much like howSadie Adler’s horse reflects her character inRed Dead Redemption 2, so too do the horses of the game reflect real-life horses.

Other users commented under the post agreeing with Facial_Fetuss, simultaneously commending the realism ofRed Dead Redemption 2while condemning other franchises for their poor horsemanship. One user, who was clearly very familiar with horses, noted that the anatomy of the horses as well as their gait varying by the breed were especially impressive traits that other games mostly failed to capture. Other users congratulated Rockstar and the game on its horses, especially compared to the horses fromAssassin’s Creed: ValhallaandGhost of Tsushimaspecifically.

Regardless of poor horse work in other games, Facial_Fetuss managed to further show that horses inRed Dead Redemption 2are pretty much unmatched in terms of realism. With other fans making incredibleRed Dead Redemption 2stencils of Arthur and horses, it is clear that players appreciate this level of detail; hopefully, it will carry over to Rockstar’s future projects, as anything near this level of realism will surely pay off.

Red Dead Redemption 2is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
