EA and DICE have shared very little about this year’sBattlefieldtitle, which has been referred to as bothBattlefield 6andBattlefield 2021in lieu of its official name (which hasn’t been revealed yet). While some information was shared recently, withDICE promising epic-scale warfareand potentially hinting at a next-gen only release for consoles, there’s still no sign of the actual official reveal of the game. With any luck, the wait won’t be much longer.

According to journalist and industry insider Jeff Grubb, the reveal should be happening at some point this week. Grubb reiterates that he had previously said that theBattlefieldreveal would happen in early May, which is right now. Assuming his information is correct and plans haven’t changed, it would mean the reveal will take place within the next several days or so.

He added that the game won’t be calledBattlefield 6, something that another insider, Tom Henderson, has also claimed. Plus, given thenaming conventions for the last couple ofBattlefieldgamesand speculation that the 2021 game will be set in modern day (as opposed to the last two games being set during the First and Second World Wars), it stands to reason that the new game will either feature a new subtitle or just be calledBattlefield, so as to herald in a new era for the series.

Despite the lack of any official information, it’s possible that fans already know a lot about this year’sBattlefield, thanks to frequent leaks, most of which have come from Henderson. Some details include a more modern setting anda battle royale mode(obviously to help it compete with its biggest competitor,Call of Duty).

Funnily enough, themost recentBattlefield 6leaksdidn’t come from Henderson, as two images that are believed to be taken directly from the announcement trailer were discovered on Reddit. Henderson himself corroborated them and claimed they’re authentic. Surprisingly, the images were actually posted a couple of weeks ago and went by unnoticed.

Aside from this year’s game, EA and DICE did also announcean entirely separateBattlefieldmobile gamethat managed to not be leaked beforehand. There are very few details for that one as well, although it’s described as being its own game and not a port of this year’s one. Plus, it won’t be releasing until 2022.

Regardless, EA certainly has something of an uphill battle when the new game does release. TheCall of Dutygames are more popular than ever before so it will be interesting to see whatBattlefieldhas to help it stand out, convince new players to choose it overCall of Duty, and maybe even win over establishedCall of Dutyfans.

Battlefield 2021is planned to release this year.
