Deadlinereports Waldron will pen the script for Feige’sStar Warsfilm as part of a recent deal he signed with Disney. Furthermore, the terms of the deal mean Waldron will likely be brought back in some capacity for a second season ofLoki. The outlet posits that the rare deal is a sign of Disney’s confidence in Waldron and his attachment to theStar Warsfilm adds momentum to the project, which has yet to begin production or receive a release date. Known for producing multiple episodes ofDan Harmon’sRick and Morty, Waldron joined the Disney family as the head writer and executive producer ofLokiin 2019 before being tapped to rewrite the script for Sam Raimi’sDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

BothLokiand theDoctor Strange sequel are expected to factor heavily into Marvel Studios' plans to explore the multiverse and alternate worlds in the MCU franchise. WhileLokiwill see Tom Hiddleston reprise his roleas the God of Mischief, the series will focus on the version of the character who escaped custody after the battle of New York due to the time-traveling exploits of the Avengers inEndgame. The events ofDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, on the other hand, will be set up by Disney Plus’WandaVision, in which Scarlet Witch and Vision find themselves living in an alternate reality reminiscent of classic television sitcoms.

As for theStar Warsfranchise, Kennedy recently announced 10 television projects being developed for Disney Plus and a feature film fromWonder Woman 1984director Patty Jenkins titledRogue Squadron. Curiously, an update on Feige’sStar Warsfilm was not provided during the same presentation for Disney’s Investor Day.

Also absent from the presentation was any mention of the previously announcedStar Warstrilogy from Rian Johnson. While there has not been any official news regarding the trilogy’s future, fans suspect the divisive response to Johnson’sThe Last Jedimay have hindered the project’s chances of moving forward.
