Reports indicate that organizers of the festival have hinted that some of the talented cast and crew will make their appearance at the festival, although it is not confirmed who. Zhao did make her presence in Italy back in September to be a jury member at this year’s Venice Film Festival.Eternalswill have its official theatrical debutin Italy on November 3rd, as well as in other European locations.
Eternalswill focus on an immortal alien race that was created by cosmic beings known as Celestials and has been living secretly on Earth for thousands of years. They finally have to come together to stop the Deviants, their evil counterparts. The film will introduce many new characters on screen, with the cast featuring Angelina Jolie as Thena, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Gemma Chan as Sersi,Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Barry Keoghan as Druig, and Kit Harington as Dane Whitman.
It was recently reported thatEternalsmay be the second-longest MCU filmat 156 minutes (2 hr 36 min), right behindAvengers: Endgame’s 3 hours. And while it hasn’t been confirmed, what director Zhao did confirm is thatEternalswill have a big effect on the future of the MCU. Several cast members have also claimed that the next MCU entry will be one of the most impactful films in ways involving representation and empowerment.
Taking a filmmaker like Zhao, who is coming off of Best Director and Best Picture wins at the 2021 Academy Awards for her critically acclaimedNomadland, and combining her talents with a unique story that looks to push the MCU in cosmic directions will no doubt open plenty of doors into other universes.
Eternalsis set to release in theatres in the U.S. on November 5th, 2021.
