Sources have suggested thatMetroid Prime 2 Remasteredis now in active development and that it might not be too long until people get to play it on their Nintendo Switch consoles. The recent resounding success of the remaster of the originalMetroid Primecertainly proved that there’s plenty of interest in this particular franchise offshoot, so it wouldn’t be overly surprising if Nintendo jumped on the opportunity to continue its streak.
Specifically,Metroid Prime Remasteredsold over a million copiesbetween February and March of 2023, underlining just how excited the community was for it, as well as the franchise’s importance for Nintendo’s current Switch game roster. Remastering a sequel by leveraging previously established tech may seem like a no-brainer, though the existence of the new title is yet to be confirmed.

According to leaker Jeff Grubb, however, the sequel toMetroid Primeis definitely being remastered. In fact, Grubb claims thatMetroid Prime 2 Remasteredshould be coming out “relatively soonish,” adding that it’s going to be “mostly what people want.” Grubb’s sources told him that the game would have modern controls and HD visuals, but that it wouldn’t receive quite the same level of polish as the remaster of the firstPrimedid. Grubb also used the opportunity to claim that Nintendo would be doing “something not related toTears of the Kingdom” with theLegend of Zeldafranchise later in 2023.
Jeff Grubb has long been saying thatMetroid Prime 2and3will come to Switchsooner or later, so it’s not too surprising to hear him doubling down on these claims. The idea that Nintendo might choose not to give these titles the same sort of attention thatMetroid Prime Remasteredreceived, however, might miff some of the fans who have come to expect a high level of polish from the company. The good news, though, is that the sequels aren’t quite as outdated as the original title was, giving them a bit of an edge in that respect.
Nintendo’s handling ofMetroid Primehas been quite curious, broadly speaking. Some sources have suggested thatMetroid Prime Remasteredwas ready years ago, implying that the company wasn’t in any rush to push the game to stores. Now that the series has been nudged back into the limelight, however, Nintendo may feel like it’s on a schedule to get the two remainingPrimetitles out.
Metroid Prime 4is still in production, after all. It would make perfect sense if Nintendo were to re-release fully updated versions of the previous titles before the new one comes out. Grubb’s claims are hardly unbelievable, then, but it’s still worth taking them with a pinch of salt at hand, just in case they don’t end up entirely panning out.
