Summary
As was foretold when this cycle began all the way back in 2005, a newCall of Dutyis slated to be released every year, and despite early rumors suggesting the contrary, 2023 is no exception to this rule. Announced just last month,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is set to be a direct sequel tolast year’sModern Warfare 2, with a campaign that follows on directly, and a multiplayer mode that carries over all of the same weapons and skins that players have been unlocking and upgrading for the last 12 months.
But weapons and skins aren’t the only thingsModern Warfare 3is carrying over from previous entries.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is set to launch with 16 6v6 multiplayer maps, all of which are remastered versions of2009’sModern Warfare 2line-up. Along with visual improvements, these maps are also set to receive a number of gameplay overhauls, and according to some rumors, these maps might even receive the addition of interactable doors. Although this sounds like a small inclusion, these doors could drastically change the flow of aCall of Dutymultiplayer match, and they could significantly impact how these classic maps play, some more so than others.

The Modern Warfare 2 Maps That Will Change The Most If Doors Are Added
One of the maps that would be most affected by the introduction of doors would be Estate. One ofthe most belovedModern Warfare 2maps of all time, Estate has a lot of surrounding structures and pathways, but its central hub is its titular wood house. In its original iteration, Estate’s main house would act as a fortress for the defending team, but it wouldn’t be an impenetrable one. Though whoever was inside the house naturally had an advantage over those trying to get in, there were still plenty of opportunities for enemy players to snipe through windows, and most importantly, open doorways to stop camping players. Adding doors to Estate inModern Warfare 3could ruin that balance.
Much like Estate, Favela would be another iconic map that might be made a tad worse with the inclusion of doors inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Like Estate, Favela had plenty of areas for players to run around and rack up kills, but it also had its fair share of camping spots, and some of those might end up being just a tad imbalanced if there were suddenly doors hiding the players inside and alerting them to the presence of oncoming attackers.
Another beloved map that has the potential to be dramatically changed via the addition of doors is Terminal. A fan-favorite map that’s finally making its return, Terminal has plenty of open spaces that encourage someclassicCall of Dutyrun-and-gun action, but there are several spots where doors could lead to some big changes. Adding doors to Terminal’s shops could lead to an awkward break in the flow of combat, with players having to carefully open a door in the middle of the map in case there’s someone hiding on the other side. For a map as run-and-gun focused as Terminal, adding doors could massively impact the map’s pace.
In a similar vein, the addition of doors in just about any ofModern Warfare 2’s urban maps could also have a significant impact on the flow of gameplay that fans remember from their original iteration. Skidrow, Bailout, and Vacant would all likely have completely different flows of gameplay if doors were suddenly added to each one, turning each attack into slowRainbow Six Siege-style infiltrationsas opposed to the original dash-and-gun experience.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3launches on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
