There’s only a little over a week left until Netflix’s adaptation ofThe Witcherpremieres, and the streaming service released one final trailer for the show’s promotion - a bit of a surprise considering reports that theprevious trailerwould be the last.
The new trailer features the armies of Nilfgaard marching on Cintra to capture Cirilla (Ciri). The reasons for why they want her act as slight spoilers for newcomers toThe Witcherseries so this writing (like the trailer) won’t mention them.

The trailer starts with Calanthe, the Queen of Cintra, telling her grandaughter Ciri that she’s “the lion cub of Cintra,” implying that she will soon be the next person to take the throne. As Cintra enjoys a celebration, Geralt travels the land with Jaskier (who Witcher game fans know as “Dandelion”) and spots the armies of Nilfgaard making their way toward Cintra. Geralt warns Cintra of the danger, but even as the kingdom rebuttals Nilfgaard with their own army, the resulting chaos forces Ciri to flee from her home and find Geralt for his protection. Geralt promises to find Ciri and bring her back unharmed, but whether or not he’ll be able to keep the promise remains a mystery as the trailer foreshadows Ciri’s perils.
This trailer fleshes out the primary goal of this season better than any of the others before it. It sets the stage for what viewers can expect, and while the stakes are a little vague (for a good reason) Calanthe does mention that the whole world rests on Ciri’s fate, leaving just enough bait on the hook to interest anyone thinking about taking a chance on the show. It also puts into better perspective why Lauren Hissrich, the show’s creator, once thought about makingCiri the main character of the showinstead of Geralt.
Lauren has seven seasons planned for this show, and this one will revolve around the start of the conflict between Nilfgaard and Cintra along with the introduction of the series main characters, keeping it in line with the first book ofThe Witcherseries. The show will make a few nods to the games here and there but mainly plans to focus on adapting the novels as they are the primary source material, and the games deviated from them in a variety of ways, namely by taking place in a future timeline.
