Less than a week into the new Season of the Lost,Destiny 2developer Bungie has disabled a new Exotic item because players found it to be too overpowered. Players were excited to see that the Radiant Dance Machines were returning fromDestiny 1but unfortunately, they proved to be somewhat broken at launch.
Destiny 2launched in 2017 and since then has seen numerous items and areas added, true to its nature as a live service game. But many live service games occasionally launch items that allow for combinations and abilities that even the developer couldn’t account for.

Radiant Dance Machines are a returning exoticleg armor for Hunters, brought fromD1 toDestiny 2. The key exotic perk for the exotic allows players to dodge several times in quick succession, but some found that they could dodge up to 6 times. And with the Dynamo and Distribution perks on armor,Destiny 2players found that they could build half their Super meter in a matter of seconds. On top of that, Hunter players that used the Revenant Stasis subclass could use the Radiant Dance Machines to freeze enemies over and over again.
The Radiant Dance Machines are not the first item to draw concerns due to balancing issues, as theLorentz Driver is also being changedto remove its visual tracking perk in PvP. As with past content launches, it seems one of Season of the Lost’s early struggles is balancing new pieces of gear.
Thebalancing issues affectingDestiny 2are sure to dissipate shortly, as Bungie works on post-launch support for Season of the Lost. It’s obviously not in Bungie’s plan with each season launch, but usually, there are a few issues that need to be worked out before things stabilize. The nature of a live service game means these unintended effects are usually patched as quickly as possible to avoid players abusing them too much.
It’s disappointing that a new piece of gear is already disabled, but it’s not the first time this has happened. Coincidentally, Bungie has also disabled the Wormgod Caress exotic for Titans because of a damage exploit that was allowing players tobeat a Vault of Glass raid boss in seconds.
It should be noted that the Radiant Dance Machines are only disabled inGambit and PvP modes, remaining active in all other modes for the time being. This means PvE, which has entirely different balancing considerations, will be unaffected. Players who are mainly intoDestiny 2for the cooperative elements need not worry.
Destiny 2is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
