In just a few days, John Cena’sPeacemakerwill return to wreak havoc on HBO Max, and the streamer has released a new preview in time for the quirky character’s re-introduction. The minute-long promo offers a look at some new footage from the much-awaited series and focuses on Peacemaker’s relationships with his father and team members, along with his “questionable backstory.”
Cena’s Peacemaker last appeared in director James Gunn’sThe Suicide Squad, and was last seen recuperating in a hospital bed. Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt and Steve Agee’s John Economos arrive in his secret room in the post-credits scene in the film and hire him for a mission on Amanda Waller’s orders. The spin-off series is expected to pick up afterthe events ofThe Suicide Squad, but also promises to offer insight into Peacemaker’s background.

Thenew promo begins with Cena’s Peacemakerhaving a conversation with his nosy neighbor about his super-villain status being a “misconception.” It seems like he will have a unique relationship with each of his team members, with Danielle Brooks' Leota Adebayo most likely being his comedic partner. The duo are seen conversing over a “grenade tied to a Russian tank shell” and how many people it could potentially kill. The ludicrous conversation ends with Peacemaker throwing the contraption onto some goons and creating a massive explosion.
Holland’s Harcourt and Agee’s Economos don’t have a similarly comedic equation with Peacemaker, as they seem to be more intimidating. The two are seenlaughing at Peacemaker’s expenseand making fun of his costume. “A bright red shirt and white pants aren’t exactly conducive to lurking in the shadows,” Agee’s Economos is heard saying. But, in Peacemaker’s opinion, his costume “strikes fear” in people’s hearts.
The trailer also shows the firsthilarious interaction between Peacemakerand his pet eagle named Eagly. The bird is seen hugging Cena’s character in the video, and it seems like it will be around to assist the anti-hero in his path towards achieving peace.
Fans already know that Peacemaker will go to any lengths to achieve peace, “no matter how many men, women, and children” he needs to kill to get there. Chukwudi Iwuji’s Clemson Murn, who seems to be in charge of the secret mission, is pleased with this piece of information, because “the world needs a psychopath.” It remains unclear what Waller is up to this time and why she needs Peacemaker’s help, but it sure is going to be an action-packed journey.
Peacemakerwill be available to stream on HBO Max on June 10, 2025.
