While there is a chance thatResident Evil 8,orResident Evil Villageas it’s officially called, willrelease on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, most fans are likely more focused on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, as this is the horror series' first foray onto next generation consoles.
As such,Resident Evil 8on next gen will have a number of upgrades that won’t be feasible on current hardware. While fans have had a general idea ofwhat sort of upgrades will be available, an official list of them has been posted to the PlayStation Store website.

Firstly, the game will have ray tracing, which means improved and more realistic lighting effects that will no doubt help make the game’s locations extra creepy. Secondly, it will support 4K visuals as well, but obviously only on compatible TVs. The other big confirmation is faster loading times, something which has otherwise been promised generally for next gen games. What will be unique to the PS5 version, though, will be the features associated with the console’s DualSense controller.
With the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, the controller will simulate the feel of holding and firing guns in the game. This was one of the very first features Sony talked about when the DualSense was first unveiled and looks set to be commonplace. However, Sony did confirm recently thatthese features can be turned off entirelyfor accessibility’s sake.
Lastly, there will be 3D audio support for compatible headphones. This will allow for an even more immersive experience as it will make it seem like the sounds are coming from every direction, perfect for those who want their horror games to be as scary as they can possibly be.
The likes of 4K visuals and faster load times can safely be assumed to be included with the Xbox Series X/S version ofResident Evil 8too, though fans should still probably wait for Microsoft to officially share details. The list also makes no mention of framerate, which may worry some fans, as a purported leak claimed that Capcom wasstruggling to get the game running at a stable framerateon PS5. As with all leaks, take those claims with a pinch of salt.
Next year is sure to be a big year for theResident Evilfranchise. Aside from the new game, there will be two Netflix shows (one live-action, one CGI animated) and a movie reboot. Most of the movie’s main cast has already been confirmed and, more recently,Gotham’s Donal Logue was confirmed to be appearingas Brian Irons, the corrupt chief of police fromResident Evil 2.
