Following their Marvel success, the Russo brothers are returning yet again to the action genre withThe Gray Man, a new spy thriller from Netflix featuring an impressive cast led by Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. Set to release next month, new character posters have dropped ahead of the film’s first trailer release tomorrow.
Based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney,The Gray Manfollows skilled CIA mercenary Court Gentry (Gosling) on the run from hisunhinged former colleague Lloyd Hansen (Evans)and other assassins after he accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets. Out of all the exciting films slated to release onNetflixthis year,The Gray Manmay be one of the biggest (literally). With a budget of $200, the film will be the streaming platform’s most expensive project to date, as the film hopes to kick off a franchise based on Greaney’s books.

Following its globe-trotting production, brief first footage of the highly-anticipated film was shown in a Netflix trailer thatpreviewed many of their big films slated to release in 2022. Ever since then, the directing duo has been hyping up fans by teasing the arrival of the first trailer’s release by posting stills from the film.
Now, new exciting character posters should keep the excitement rolling.For Gosling’s and Evans' characters, they have the labels “The Uncatchable” and “The Unstoppable”, hinting at the rivalry in place between the two agents. As for Ana de Armas' and Dhanush’s characters, their labels read “The Untraceable” and “Lethal Force”. What gets even more exciting is that the directors have confirmed in the same post that a first trailer will finally drop tomorrow, one that will of course give audiences their first look at some of the high-stakes action that awaits.
The Russo brothers have previously compared the upcoming film to some of their Marvel films, especially their work onCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, as they strived to take this gritty spy story and tie it into the modern world. IfThe Gray Manis anything like what was presented in their thrilling first MCU outing, then fans will definitely be in for something truly special.
The film’s impressive ensemble also includes Billy Bob Thornton as Donald Fitzroy, Alfre Woodard as Maurice Cahill, Regé-Jean Page as Denny Carmichael, and Julia Butters as Claire Fitzroy. Other cast members include Jessica Henwick, Michael Gandolfini, Wagner Moura, Callan Mulvey, and Sam Lerner in undisclosed roles.Joe Russo has co-written the filmwith writing duo Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the duo who worked with the Russo Brothers on their Marvel films.
The Gray Manwill have a limited release beginning July 15, followed by its July 22 premiere on Netflix.
