Yesterday, Nintendo gave fans another long-awaited look atThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. While details are still rather sparse, fans were happy to learn that the game is aiming for a 2022 release. TheBreath of the Wildsequel’s new trailer didn’t disappoint either, showing that players will now be able to venture as Link up into the skies of Hyrule, in addition to the Hyrule itself on the ground below.
The game’s initial 2019 reveal trailer cemented that it would be somewhat of a darker take on theZeldaseries, from the ominous appearances of what seems to be a mummified Ganon, to the overwhelming presence of a mysterious, black and red energy. Since the game’s reveal, it has beencompared toMajora’s Maskfor its darker tone, and now, Nintendo has officially commented on these comparisons.

During an interview with IGN, Nintendo Treehouse’s Bill Trinen explained that while he can certainly understand why people might compare the sequel toBreath of the WildtoMajora’s Mask, especially with both games being direct sequels,Breath of the Wild 2is very much its own game. As more details are revealed about the sequel, “it’ll probably start to be a bit more apparent where this game stands on its own and what makes it so unique,” Trinen says.
Trinen assured fans that in addition to Link’s new Sheikah Slate-like arm and flamethrower-like shield attachment, there is much to be revealed. The long-time Nintendo of America employee also explained that the sequel will build greatly upon the original game.
