For many people, being in the Boy Scouts or Cub Scouts is a big part of growing up. Scouts improve their rank as they complete training and get older, and now the currentPresident of Nintendo of Americahas taken the opportunity to praise some kids who were ranking up.
A Cub Scout leader was looking to produce a special celebration for their achievement of the highest rank in the Cub Scouts. After successfully reaching out to Nintendo, all that was left was to wait. Unfortunately, the praise was a little late for the award ceremony, but the kids are surely thrilled nonetheless. Rather than receiving a generic letter,Doug Bowser, the current President of Nintendo of America, reached out himself in letter form. The letter offers personalized praise to the six scouts, highlighting the hard work they’d put in to achieve the Arrow of Light rank.
Despite the name, the rank has no association withZeldaor anything else to do with Nintendo. Kids in the Cub Scouts raise their rank as they move through each year of schooling, starting with completing kindergarten. The Arrow of Light rank is achieved when Cub Scouts are ready to move on from the scout group after completing fourth grade in school.
Despite the lack of connection to the Arrow of Light rank, Bowser emphasized traits that fans of theZeldaseriesmay nonetheless identify with; hard work, determination, and a continuing journey. Bowser polished off each letter with hope that the children will continue their work, and personally signed each one. Also enclosed in the letters were someAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsbookmarks for the children to enjoy.
It’s a charming bit of outreach from Nintendo, which has been known for reaching out to fans and diehard Nintendo users previously. In the past, Nintendo has even gone so far as toreplace a Game Boy owned by a 95-year-oldwoman who was heartbroken to have it fail on her after so many years in use. While the future of these six Cub Scouts is anyone’s guess, having a letter from the Nintendo of America congratulating them is something they’ll be able to be proud of for years to come.
