Minecraftis considered to be one of the most beloved sandbox games to date, with 140 million monthly active players in 2023 according to Search Logistics. The open nature of the game is often the most attractive part ofMinecraftbecause its users can progress at their own pace. While some may choose to battle thedangerousMinecraftmob bosses, others may find themselves peacefully tending to their hydraulic farms, or even building a fully-functional in-game computer.

Regardless of the path that players lean into while immersing themselves in the world ofMinecraft, the amount of creative freedom in this game is undeniable. On top of this, the number of mods available and constant updates from the developers makesMinecraftall the more diverse. Still, the game could still benefit from various improvements, one of which has to do with its decorative options.

Minecraft Should Let its Players Paint Blocks

Minecraftis known for its highly creative player base as many users are able to tailor their builds to their own personal tastes. From players who constructed their own detailed empires to those who haveperfectly re-created Hogwarts inMinecraft, the game allows people to do virtually anything they desire. The ability to customize individual features in-game is one of the components that have made games such asAnimal Crossing: New HorizonsandDisney Dreamlight Valleyso incredibly popular. IfMinecraftwere to mimic this, it could find a whole new audience to appeal to.

TheMinecraftupdate after Trails & Tales should take a page from the modding community and implement an option to make the world more colorful. The"Tinted"Minecraftmod from user itayfederallows players to paint items in thirteen different colors. When users pick up the Paintbrush, they simply need to right-click on a block to alter its color set while holding their dye of choice in the other hand.

Of course, players can already do some of this by crafting blocks of a certain color, though it doesn’t save as much time as the mod does. IfMinecraftwanted to take after the improvedcustomization options thatMinecraft Legendsoffers, it could think about implementing a paintbrush or paint can tool. Allowing people to paint a single side of a block could be a significant improvement to what already exists in the game.

For example, if a player wanted to paint the exterior of their house a different color from the interior, they could apply the different colors they prefer to each side. The usual method for having different colors on a build is to create two layers of blocks, set side by side. However, this can end up making the design look chunky and may take up more space than necessary.

While it isn’t quite the same, theMinecraftcommunity has found ways to customize blocks without downloading a texture pack or mods. One of these techniques is to scavenge forTerracotta, a multicolored stonethat is abundant in badlands biomes. It can also be acquired by smelting clay and comes with sixteen base colors, though Glazed Terracotta yields more options and patterns.

Players can use Terracotta blocks to produce eye-catching designs, but it’s not the same as being able to directly paint all the different sides of the blocks. TheMinecraft1.20 Trails & Tales updatedoesn’t have this feature, but players can always use mods to achieve the look they want. Still, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before this painting option is added.

Minecraftis available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
