While most fans continue to speculatewhat aResident Evil 4remake would look like, some look further back. A fan named Mr. Curious is in the process of creatingResident Evil Remix, a remix ofResident Evil. The catch is that it re-imaginesResident EvilwithResident Evil 4’s gameplay and mechanics, replacing the tanky controls and fixed camera with an over-the-shoulder view and quicker gameplay. While not yet finished,Remixis actually very close to being done, possibly within a year.

Although the mod is a long time in the making, its remixing method is now tried and true. Both theResident Evil 2andResident Evil 3remakes took many notes fromResident Evil 4. While these games may not be asoverly gruesomeasRE 7or the upcomingRE 8, their scares and creativity are still fantastic. In each case, theResident Evil 4approach enhanced the experience and made it better.

Players who experienceResident Evilfor the first time through the remix may find it set apart from its sequels. The entire game is confined to a single, expansive mansion, and is a slow-burn puzzler. There are nooverpoweredREweaponslike the Chicago Typewriter to be found, so players must be cautious with ammo and herbs. If theRemixcarries the same strengths as the original, it will provide a fascinating, creepy beginning to Umbrella Corps' history.

The mod also comes with bonus content adapted from the original game. There are additional secrets and, perhaps, extra areas in the mansion. In addition, the opening cutscene ofResident Evilseems to be fully playable, complete with AI teammates.Resident Evil Remixis another in a long line of fan-tributes to theREseries, especially when it comes to mods. Other examples include aDino Crisismod for theResident Evil 3remake, which is the closest to a newDino Crisisgame anyone will see for a while.
