Blizzard recently hinted at potential upcoming nerfs toOverwatch 2’s Genji and his Dragon Blade ultimate and fans of the ninja Hero are not happy. The launch of the hero shooter sequel last year saw the return of Blizzard’s shooter franchise to the spotlight with the sequel transitioning to a free-to-play model. Among the many changes made with the release of the second game were a shift to 5v5 gameplay in the main game modes, as well asnew Heroes like Kirikoand Sojourn. Now, Blizzard may be looking at changes to a popular Hero.Since the debut of the firstOverwatch, Genji has been a fan-favorite character for his swift movements and highly aggressive playstyle. However,Overwatch 2players have been anything but happy with how the ninja has been handled in the hero-shooter sequel. Genji has seen multiple nerfs due to his strong position as a DPS in the new game, making changes including cutting both his ammo capacity and the damage of his shurikens. Now, fans are voicing their discontent as Blizzard is considering making a change to his Ultimate, Dragon Blade.RELATED:Overwatch 2 Players Are Upset at Blizzard’s Plans to Nerf GenjiIn a recent discussion about the state ofOverwatch 2, Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson implied that Genji may be receiving more nerfs as a result of the character still being in a “good place” balance-wise. Dawson suggested the developer may look to transfer some of Genji’s power away from his Ultimate and into other parts of his kit. Fans of Genji have been heavily critical of the idea, with many feeling that the character has lost a significant part of “what made him good.” Fans have called his overall damage output weak, especially in comparison to thestrength of healing inOverwatch 2.
Other fans have suggestedOverwatch 2’s dataset may be to blame for themisconception about Genji’s power level. Some have felt that the developer may be leaning too much into Genji’s power level in lower ranks, feeling less skilled players can more easily dominate with the Hero. Genji players have also complained about a change that saw the Hero lose his DPS speed passive, a change that many fans have felt makes him “unfun” to play.
The potential changes to Genji come asOverwatch 2has added several new Heroes to theOverwatchsequel. The release of the game came with three new Heroes added to the game in Kiriko, Sojourn, and Junker Queen.Ramattra recently became the first new characterto be introduced following its October debut, launching alongside the game’s second competitive season last month.
