Overwatch 2is set to move the narrative forward in a big way through its PvE campaign, and though it has been some time since Blizzard last showed it off, fans have a good idea of what to expect. Based on what was shown initially, a new Omnic Crisis seemed to be taking place, introducing a number of terrifying new machines for the heroes to fight against. Thanks to the addition of theTank hero Ramattra, players now know who is leading these Omnics, though the story will surely continue once he has been stopped.
Though the partnership between Null Sector and Talon ensures that the new Overwatch group will have many foes to face off against, it can be assumed that the heroes will save the day as they always do. As a result, a new threat will have to be teased, and there is a good chance that this villain has been in the background the entire time. Sombra’s search for the truth could lead theOverwatch 2character right to them, setting the stage for the next big story arc.

Sombra’s Search For The Truth Could Be The Next Step in Overwatch 2’s Story
ThoughOverwatch 2’s storywill have plenty going on with the various character interactions and the presence of two villain factions, it could always have a post credits scene that sets up what is next. Sombra finally getting the answers that she is looking for could be a perfect teaser for what is to come, as those familiar with the character will know that she is using Talon to get the necessary resources so that she can solve the mystery.
As revealed inSombra’s origin story, her natural hacking abilities ensured that she could get access to any secret information she wanted. The collection of info became an addiction for the cocky hacker, but eventually, she stumbled upon a global conspiracy that shook her to her core. This conspiracy and the people behind it have become her entire motivation, but with Sombra noticed by the group during her hack, she has been on the run ever since. This caused her to abandon the name Olivia Colomar and become Sombra, getting cybernetic implants to enhance her hacking skills shortly after.
Clearly, this conspiracy is a threat, but only Sombra knows why. Her determination to learn more about the group has seen her joining up with a terrorist organization, but based on how protective she is of Sigma, she is not morally corrupt like the rest of the group. Just like she used Volskaya in her “Infiltration” animated short, Sombra is working for Talon purely to further her own goal of finding the person that rules the world. With this person shown to have ties to heroes and villains alike, and maybe even the Iris thatZenyattaand his fellow monks worship, it is unclear what exactly they want.
IfOverwatch 2is going to truly move the narrative forward, it has to show character development for all its heroes.Hanzo has to stop being conflictedand start making peace with his brother Genji, Reinhardt needs to confront his hatred for Omnics, and Sombra has to make some progress in her conspiracy investigation. The longer Blizzard leaves questions like this unanswered, the less interested the community will be when information finally arrives.
Much like how it would be interesting tosee Widowmaker escape her brainwashingand join Overwatch, it would be fun to see Sombra find what she is looking for and disappear from Talon. Perhaps she will find something so shocking and someone so formidable that she has to request the help of Overwatch, switching sides and aligning with characters like Winston and Tracer to help save the world. If the figure at the heart of the conspiracy truly is behind everything that has happened in theOverwatchuniverse, good and bad, a fight against them could briefly unite villains like Moira with heroes like Mercy. If Sombra solves this conspiracy, she could become the most important character inOverwatch.
Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
