A creativePokemonfan has been re-igniting nostalgia and getting over a thousand likes on Reddit for their “low-poly render” of Professor Oak’s lab. The iconic laboratory is familiar to the players ofPokemon Red and Blueas the room where players/trainers pick up their firstPokemon, beginning the internationally acclaimed series.
BothRedandBluewere released nearly 26 years ago, and during that quarter of a century the series has progressed a long way with multiple games, spinoffs, toys, collectibles, anime, and loads more being released. It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t know about the iconic series, especially when plenty of fan art examples like this one are still being made today.

The creator, a Reddit user called u/Asceliopos, cited"the new opus release" ofPokemon Legends: Arceusas their inspiration for this stunning piece of fan art. No doubt the unveiling of a new game brings about the balance of nostalgia for old games and excitement for what lies in store in new releases. The familiar laboratory that begins many player’s journeys has been rendered in the artistic 3D modeling software Blender, with the lab set inside a classic yellow GameBoy that many players likely owned in order to play Red and Blue.
The latest entry in thePokemongame series is set to take the franchise in a new direction, adapting certain series' staples in new ways to make it more user-friendly and inviting for players. One such example is the PokeDex, a roster that lists all availablePokemon. Each new incarnation of the series has gradually added more and more pocket monsters that can be caught and used in battle, growing from the original 151 to a whopping 898. However, Game Freak have made some notable changes toPokemonlore already such asretconning Poke Ball lore, which has proven slightly more controversial amongst long-time fans.
It’s easy to forget the humble origins of such a large gaming franchise when seeing nostalgic fan art, but it is a strong reminder thatPokemonis not something that will likely be dying off anytime soon. With the release ofPokemon Legends: Arceusbeing met with lots of praise and acclaim, fans of the series have plenty to get stuck into and serve as another enjoyable experience for thePokemonfranchise still going strong after so long. The beautiful re-creation of Professor Oak’s lab will likely get hundreds more upvotes in the following days, and could see the start of another artistic trend from die-hardPokemonfans.
