Pokemon ScarletandVioletgo a different route with Team Star than the series has with its past villainous teams. Unlike groups such as Team Flare or Team Galactic, Team Star is not overtly evil and doesn’t have grand schemes for world domination, rather it’s a group of misunderstood outcasts who banded together to stand up against bullying. While the base games ofPokemon ScarletandVioletdo a great job of developing the characters who serve as Team Star’s leaders, Ortega has the potential to be even more important to the plot of The Indigo Disk DLC.

TheDLC forPokemon ScarletandViolethas a huge opportunity to tie up loose ends left by the base games. Aside from expanding the world of Paldea, The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk could provide a chance to really focus on the game’s characters and dive deeper into the backstories of some who didn’t get as much attention. While these DLC expansions are sure to introduce new characters, it seems like The Indigo Disk has a clear opportunity to set up engineering whiz Ortega as a key player in its story.

How Team Star’s Ortega Could Drive the Plot of The Indigo Disk

Ortega is the leader of Team Star’s Ruchbah Squad and a Fairy-type specialist. He comes from a wealthy family and is heir to a popular Paldea clothing brand, but is still bullied despite his status. As such, he was able to bond with the other members ofPokemon ScarletandViolet’s Team Star, and his prowess with Fairy-type Pokemon make him stand above the rest. However, an important part of Ortega’s role within Team Star is that of its engineer, being responsible for developing the team’s Starmobiles.

Given thatThe Indigo Disk DLCwill have players travel to Blueberry Academy, the sister school toPokemon ScarletandViolet’s Naranja or Uva Academy, the high-tech school seems like a perfect connection for the son of a wealthy family to flex his status. Perhaps the DLC could focus on the story of how Ortega previously attended Blueberry Academy, where he learned the engineering skills that he used to develop the Starmobiles. This could help explain why Ortega is so adept at engineering, but could also include insight into where his bullying problems began.

Ortega could also be the player’s reason for visiting Blueberry Academy in The Indigo Disk. It could be that after helping Team Star during theStarfall Streetplotline, Ortega wants to revisit his former school with the player as part of their exchange program so that he can face his former classmates with more confidence; friends by his side. This could also help tie other characters like Penny into the DLC, as Ortega would probably want the former leader of Team Star to support him, and she already has the technical hacking skills to cut it at a more advanced academy.

With how popular Team Star has been among fans ofPokemon ScarletandViolet, it would be great to see more of their backstory in the upcoming DLC. Given how the seeds for potential connections betweenBlueberry Academyand Ortega have already been sown, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Team Star’s Fairy expert as the driving force behind this DLC’s story. Not only would this give Ortega a stronger character, but it would give the DLC a thematically consistent reason for existing beyond just having the player participate in an exchange program for the sake of it.
